Anyone else losing/lost interest?

Been faithfully playing the game since Cata. M+ introduced a whole new level of fun for me since its inception, and each season I looked forward to pushing that score. But this one, I just can’t drum up the interest. Raiding has almost no appeal to me. I’m not frustrated at any area of the game in particular, or complaining at all…in fact I feel sad in some ways because I want to want to log in and play with my friends. I don’t feel like it’s burnout. Is it DF in general? I feel like it’s a beautiful expansion compared to SL. But just…bleh. Nothing in the game is interesting to me right now.

Realistically how much can you play before you get bored with this game? It never changes. Each expansion is just a new skin. The same stuff takes place. Story, level up, repeat dailies and dungeons to gain power. The same cycle keeps repeating. People grow tired of it. You don’t need a special reason to keep playing. Get tired of it and turn it off. It’s a game not a midlife crisis decision to keep playing. Take a breather from it. It isn’t going anywhere and will be here if you want to return again.

Load up Diablo 4 here soon and smash some demons for while in a couple weeks.

It’s the lack of borrowed power. The minimal bits available weekly (like the rep quests) are just that, rep, and rep does not lead to gear, so many people do not prioritize it. Why grind anything for a new recipe?

Similarly, since, again, there’s no borrowed power, there’s no drive to get your alts on to a treadmill and start working them up. We all know we can level the alt, grab some catch up gear, and away they go! So, barring a real need “right now”, there’s no reason to do that either.

Most folks don’t run M+ 24x7, you can’t raid 24x7, so before there was filler content to between those sessions (i.e. borrowed power). Now there isn’t, so, “there’s nothing to do”.

Also, that said, the new zone falls flat for me. Just not into it, so not hungry to go into that either. I’ll focus on LFR, and a couple M+ a week, do some dailies, and that’s it. I haven’t “needed to play” in days. So, I don’t.

You are getting older, and wiser, my child

I can agree with the older part. Still working on the wiser.

I rarely have the motivation to play and when I do it maybe lasts 3 days to a week before I feel no motivation again

This new cavern is annoying, and the content is just more World of Rarecraft. I was expecting a bit more. I’m feeling the lack of interest as well. I cannot stand confined play areas.

Lastly, I want to fly on my normal mounts. I have 575 mounts that aren’t usable in DF right now. :frowning:

Any thoughts so far with the upcoming Dawn of the Infinites?

Interest comes and goes, fades and returns … kinda like it’s always been.

Nah, having a blast. :dracthyr_love_animated: Although I think DF has caused the most UI issues of all expacs for me, lmao.

i think we are just getting old.

i log in, run around dal, bg a bit then log out. I have no interest in m+ or raiding, and i used to just run around collecting old raid stuff, but you need whole groups to run old expansion raids now so i cant be bothered with anything after legion. at some point i just need to admit to myself that most of my continued play is some sort of weird sunk cost fallacy where i play when im bored because i always used to play when im bored.

i dont really fault blizzard for that, i dont know how they would fix it either. maybe some sort of a compelling story, because honestly i havnt cared about the story in this game since cata. but maybe thats just me being old too. who knows.

omg, this though. needing to update my addons every half day for them to stay functional or because every 14 seconds theres a new version out and i get spammed with messages how theres a new version of x addon out is endlessly frustrating.

Everyone that does lose interest is different to a degree OP.

I lost interest in the game after BFA.

Started questioning my play time in it literally the first year I officially subbed, in Legion.

Shadowlands killed the rest of that.

But I went back cause there isn’t much happening in my life so I enjoy the fantasy of Warcraft, the aesthetic, and [I used to] enjoy professions, making gold…

If nothing interests you in the game, best to just take a break.

Your name reminds me of this song.

OP how old are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Full disclosure I’m in my 40s and have been playing since 2006. Many years ago I would play all day, raid, enjoy the game with my friends and people I met while playing. Heck I made some life long friends that I am still in touch with after all these years.

But lately, I do feel your frustration and I understand what you’re saying. WoW is something we all (mostly) love, otherwise we wouldn’t be here.

I think DF is a really cool expansion, it’s beautiful, has expansive zones and interesting lore, great music…basically anything you’d want from a WoW expansion. But these days I find myself only logging in to do ‘tasks’ and maybe some transmog hunting. And guess what… that’s fine! I’m still connected to the game and the world that has been created there and it’s still an escape for me. But it’s not the same as it was in the past and that’s because it’s just aging. And so are we. Maybe changing for a new audience. And I don’t fault Blizzard for that (for all their faults because there are many).

I would say possibly take a break, maybe get a different perspective with a new game. WoW will always be here for you. The reason I’m writing all of this is because your post really came off as genuine. And you won’t get a reply like this from me very often.

If you want to stick with WoW for now, there is actually a ton of stuff to do, either solo or with friends. Achievements, mount hunting, transmog, reputation building, finding secret pets, just to name a few.

Something I did several years ago was create a new character on a realm I had never played on with a class I had never played and on the opposing faction to what I was accustomed to. And I’ll tell you this, I met some really cool folks, joined a guild, and really recreated that experience I had when first playing this game. That sense of wonder and adventure and finding friends to come along with me.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Good luck, OP.

I lost interest in raiding. I remember the exact moment. It was a mythic castle nathria, someone on my realm invited me to play with their guild group. I got in the group, said hi, and flew there, no warlock so no summons, that’s fine. When I got in, they did a 10 minute bio break which is also fine. I accepted the lockout, they had killed two bosses before inviting me. I got in the discord and they explained the fight to a few people, I already knew it but listened patiently. After that, they said someone from their guild was logging on and kicked me. I didn’t even get to do one pull on any boss.

So I waited 40 minutes for absolutely no reason, and I wasn’t phased by it. Because you know what? That’s what raiding is now. It’s just waiting. And dealing with the roster boss. And getting nothing. And I have no interest in it anymore.

Younger than you, but not too far off. I’m hoping this is just a phase, as I’ve literally never felt this way about the game before - there was always something else in it that I could focus on if I felt bored. Thanks for the encouragement.

Sounds to me like it is burnout. Try a different game or activity and come back in a month or two, or even next patch. Should feel refreshed then.

If that doesn’t work then the next best option is to set goals. Examples being earning AOTC, achieving 2500 io, earn 2200 pvp rating, etc…

If you dont have goals, then what are you working for?

I think this is a really good statement, not just for WoW but for life in general to be honest.

OP what are your goals for this game? What do you want to accomplish?

Funny enough it’s a possible character for an alternate Morchie considering Chromie’s alternate timelines.
