Title says it all
That is normal with updates and addons. Why my addon usage is kept to a minimum, you’re at the mercy of the addon author to update it.
Plus I believe they actually made some API changes last patch, which would definitely bork some addons if they were using the parts of the API that changed.

or you know, you could fix your own add-ons if you have basic coding ability?
You can, but then its branched off the main addon. If you’re okay with that, fine feel free to do it.
Most people can’t do that, not a reasonable solution

The threat plate addon I use has broken too. The meter is fine but the plates no longer work. I chose this particular addon because it was incredibly simple and I will only use bare bones addons, so it’s a pity.
Do you also cobble your own shoes?

For those of us who pursued other fields of study and practice we can patiently wait for the authors to adjust their code.

Every patch you’ll get a message saying your add-ons are out of date. Often times this just means the patch referenced in the add-on is for an older patch and you can safely click load out of date add-ons. Sometimes it’s more than that and your add-on is actually broken.
I would guess you clicked the option to disable add-ons when you got the new patch. Re-enable all of them and at least most of them should still work.
Otherwise, you’ll want to update all your add-ons. I’d recommend using the twitch app to automate this process. With the twitch app you literally just have to click a single button and all your add-ons get updated. You can even do so while WoW is running and do a “/console reloadui” to reload your add-ons after an update.
That’s not at all a reasonable thing to expect your average WoW user to be able to do.

This often happens, which is why you need to keep your addons updated.
Addon authors usually update in advance or right after a patch release. Check Curse or WoW addons.
