I’m not a fan of it, but for a different reason. People like to complain about all sorts of things with multiple accounts. You’re basically buying gold, in the form of transmute cds, or reduced costs for summons, colluding/communicating cross faction, things of that nature. I don’t care about any of that. People can play the way they wanna play it doesn’t really mess with the way I play aside from diluting the auction house game. Auction house game was much more competitive when people actually played to win. Now ppl don’t give a fk, buy gold, and just be generally wasteful to the point where playing the AH is too damn easy. An example, a rogue showed up to naxx with 32% durability, asks for a repair bot. Ppl ask, yo why didnt you just repair.

“Iunno i forgot, just drop it ill pay you for it i dont care what it costs.”

So the AH game, which used to be a beautiful thing, a PVP game where people pit their game knowledge in a freeforall battle vs other ppl’s knowledge, and try to get ahead… now has become trivial. If you just tried a little bit you can build up 10-20k without much effort, 100k easily if you’re actually knowledgeable about in-game economy.

I digress. The reason I’m not a fan of multiple accounts is it inflates user numbers. According to the data, blizzard’s ability to create a good game environment is overestimated. If you see 420 million sales, it might really mean 69 million. It creates an illusion of a job well done, when it might not be. If shoddy work is consistently rewarded, then consumers end up with worse and worse products over time. Until we get to the point where all the talent gravitates toward mobile market and games aren’t even worth playing anymore. Or movies, or music, or anything really becoming the same formulaic crap because it’s “proven” commercially.

I don’t hate it because I have a second account.

I had a second cross faction account in Vanilla too.

Many do have multiple accounts, same faction or cross-faction, but most don’t, to be honest.

Yes, it really takes away from the rpg element of the game. Even private servers attempted to prevent people from playing on more than one account, as it is just bad for the game all around.
I witnessed live on a tbc pserver where a dude was using his 70 to boost a character on a different account, and the GM appeared and banned him for it.

To get people to pay for a second account if they want to play the other faction?

ya but 80% of them didn’t use gold from retail to pay for em

some people i play with have multiple accounts, or straight up share accounts with one another, which is against tos. but im not about to name names, just saying its really rampant.

To be clear, are you saying that having multiple accounts is against the ToS?

I had two accounts on Deathwing-US, and I have two accounts on Sulfuras-US.

There is no problem here.

Yea I dont think you understand how real life works

See the thing about 420 million in sales is… its 420 million on sales. It doesnt magically become 70 million in sales because people have multiple accounts

Looks at CNN

I think a lot of folks out there are subject to those types of illusions.

On topic: Other folks having additional accounts don’t bother me. Then again, I don’t play on PVP servers, so your perspective my differ from mine.

I’ve ran into people a few times that have multiple accounts to play both factions on a PvP server.
I was questing in thousand needles on a horde toon and I mined some iron and tagged a few quest mobs, and a guy got angry at me and threw some insults at me.

A few minutes later and alliance toon with a similar name to his horde toon ran up and started ganking me while using emotes like /spit and using that cross-faction language thing that people do by using alt-codes and numbers to generate a message to the opposite faction in /say, and insulted me that way. After 3 deaths I just logged onto a different toon and played it for a while.

I still believe that it was the same guy that got mad at me and he had multiple accounts and had alliance toons on the same server.
Grieving and exploiting at its finest.

Alot of people use multiple accounts for that sort of thing. I’ve gotten whispers from level 1s before of people making new toons on a different account just to whisper me.

This is sadly an element nearly nobody actually adheres to anymore. MMOs became a social genre ages ago and Classic devolved quickly into a “rush to be slightly the same as everyone else” game where people cite not enjoying the journey and just wanting to be 60 so they can “do content” by having skipped all the content first.

Also on-topic: it’s really easy to have a second account when WoW has paid for itself since like 2012 and nobody actually has to spend money to play it.

Yeah well you gain massive advantages having a 2nd character. Before classic released I had made a couple posts about this. “Blizzard please make an anonymous feature so that people cant /who you and find your location”. Or Simply permit alliance and horde characters on the same account, otherwise players will feel obligated to compete.

Its better to add to your friends list instead of /who ing btw.
