and think, man, i wish i could play these guys, but then realize the amount of mind numbing stuff youd have to do to even make pvping with them remotely enjoyable is just nuts, and then end up unsubscribing and playing another mmo, but then realize all you want to play is wow, and then resubscribe and then repeat this cycle like 10 times?
Yes but for whatever reason i’m an idiot and gear them all and then still hate playing them
I have 7 characters between 252-259 pvp ilvl
One is full 252 conduits and 6/6 sockets
Three others are 4/6 sockets and the rest i gave up on systems
Nope, when I want to play an alt. I play that alt. I’ve yet to encounter anything that has prevented me from doing so.
I’m fine with earning power and cosmetic rewards on my alts. I understand they aren’t second or third mains, and that individual character progression is important in this game.
This is a mmorpg, repetition is part of the game. Whether it’s running the same dungeons over and over again, doing the same dailies/WQs over and over again, doing the same bgs over and over again it’s all the same. I’m still repeating the same process over and over again
I did that last night. I quit prior to 6.1 and restarted to play Classic. I begrudgingly play Classic and reminisce over how fun Disc Priest was in Retail.
Now I just stare at my character wondering how much I need to do to get them back to “End-game.” It’s not like FFXIV where it’s the same literal formula every time. No, that would be too convenient (And annoying honestly).
Instead, there’s a new zone I need to discover, new dungeons I need to find, new currency I have to familiarize with, etc etc; it’s a lot to just up and do. And for what? Half a patch’s worth of content?
I settled on trying to unlock the alliance characters. Rather play a new alt than try to get back to end-game.
Yep. I’ve started slowly playing them since they added catch ups (renowns and conduits) so a lot of that was alleviated, but yeah it was tough.
Have you played any other mmorpgs? ESO, and GW2 for example, allow you to play your alts and not feel like you have to repeat the tedious stuff you already got through once, and those games are still revolved around grinding. Thats not the issue. Its the type of grinding in WoW, which is enough to make someone check in to a mental facility. When you feel like you cant enjoy the part of the game you only want to play because you have to repeat super boring stuff youve already done, multiplied by 7 or 8 alts, its a nope.
I never got into alts so can’t say I ever worry about that.
Think I’m just old school, alts that were actually capped and ready for end game were always a luxury.
I’d play less alts if we had cross faction queueing
As it stands right now i’m obligated to have fully geared characters on both sides to play with various people at various brackets
Cross faction queueing would reduce the amount of mains i need by half
And the only thing you hate more than playing them is yourself.
Yes, I have. Their grinds are just as prevalent as any other mmo. In most cases, they’re worse. In the case of ESO and GW2, they do it so you look into their cash shop.
Depends on the days, i’d say its a tie
I have 2 geared characters, and only 2 because SL patches have been going on for too long, otherwise it would only be one, and that second one isn’t even that geared, still missing a good weapon and this and that, there is just too many system to really invest in alts unless you literally have nothing else to do.
And it’s sad that Blizzard think forcing us to farm all this crap on one character is good game design, I just want to level alts and play them. Like how I have a paladin and I love how healing is on them, but than I need to gear them, renown level, conduits, raid gear, find the right trinkets and all that, it’s just too much so sadly I miss out on playing something I actually enjoy because I simply don’t have it in me to gear yet another alt.
It would have been amazing if years ago Blizzard clued on to the one character, many alts system, more players would be playing because than we can swap around, like I can use my hunter for DPS, my druid for tanking and my paladin for healing and won’t need to go through it all on three characters.
wait a minute. how is that possible? how can you play a character that doesn’t have full bis gear and 252 conduits?
I guess I’m just that good? or maybe I’m just lucky, yeah that must be it luck.
Definitely! lol! I know, right?! I think the content drought and the slowness of the expansion - not to mention where we are, not the content itself, but Shadowlands - Well, it’s a long time to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I like the game, I’ve had fun playing some content over and over, but there’s a limit. And the other game’s can be a fun distraction but not the same appeal so I come back with hope and then go…“O crud” (except not that word, lol!)
So, we wait not so patiently for WoW to bring out new content and get us all playing together in a good game.
No MMO can compete with WoW. They’re all bugs under WoW’s boot when it comes to gameplay and content. It’s a shame because I would like WoW to have a real competitor, something to force Blizzard’s hand and make their game more competitive on the market, but they don’t exist. WoW beats the snot out of FFXIV and every other game.
Honestly, right now between raid-logging I level up alts for the next time Mage Tower comes around. That’s pretty much it. I’ve basically got all classes at 50 now so I’ve completed the minimum threshold of the project and now I’m going to bring them up to 60 just for that little bit of extra power (and so I can farm Ravaged Seed Pod without having to get a carry from a friend).
9.0 let me have multiple mains, there’s really no reason why 9.1 had to take a step back.
Im calling shenanigans on this post. Everyone knows that if you log into an alt in shadowlands ion kicks down your door and unplugs your internet.
lol
Have you tried playing a ~235 ilvl character with only the 3 base 145 conduits, a 190 legendary and no enchants because you can’t afford them at 2100? I have and its not fun lol
My respect for you. I could never waste this much time on gear, it’s all meaningless next season.
