Edit: It was pointed out that I am dumb; I misunderstood the meaning of what was said to be that we would HAVE to use visage form, not that it would be optional. I am glad it was just me being stupid, though, and I’m glad that everyone will be able to get what they want out of Dracthyr!

It was pointed out that I have misunderstood, though, so I do hope that is the case!
I was just looking for the clip for Taranoch and he does say “focus more on playing in visage form if they want to” so, perhaps my roommate and I just misunderstood and you’re correct that it will be an option and not forced?
Edwina points out that I may have misunderstood what was meant when it was said, but Ion answered the question about Dracthyr as other classes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAzgZtQazWQ&t=0s

One thing we do want to make happen is dracthyr of a wider variety of classes. I think it makes sense as the events of Dragonflight come to an end, as the dracthyr emerge into Azeroth as a whole, that these ancient, battle-scarred warriors can learn how to wield an axe or learn how to cast a frostbolt, or other such things. That should be cool to have, and obviously they would focus more on playing visage form if they want to, so I think there’s a cool aesthetic there to being able to just be a visage form drachtyr mage…
As early as possible in The War Within. I don’t believe it’s happening at launch, but early on in the cycle. There’s animations we have to get done for dracthyr that are required for them to play as other classes, because dracthyr were originally made just to be evokers. They don’t have the ability to do a variety of the required animations. We’re working on that actively right now, so I can commit to it, but it’s not going to be complete in time for The War Within at launch…
