I found the information, and as it turns out, dishonorable kills are indeed the only way you can lose rank progress once it’s locked in. This is confirmed in a blue post from November 23 about the Classic Era PvP update – December 6.

When the weekly Honor rollover occurs on December 6, you will no longer decay due to having not met the minimum Honor requirements for your rank. Please note that decay is not the same as the penalties incurred by earning dishonorable kills, which is now the only way a player can lose rank progress.
That wasn’t so hard to find. I’m big enough to admit I was wrong here. However, your replies were unnecessarily combative for what was initially an attempt to protect others from potential rank reductions.
Yes, when you kill a civ, your ranking bar goes down. You can lose a rank. It happens in real time. In week 1, everyone was at the bottom of the scale, so it wasn’t possible to lose rank points. Thus DHKS were irrelevant.
Yeah, I remember that happening in Ashenvale during the pvp event. It was always frustrating to lose progress like that after putting in so much effort. That’s exactly why I made such a point to avoid getting any dishonorable kills this time around. It’s better to play it safe than risk losing progress again.
This guy again, I assume you’re referring to the two players who thought DHKs would affect players’ honor on Tuesday and tried to purposely give the raid DHKs, only to be removed by me?
Going way out of the way to grab a civilian only to drag it back in range of the raid to give the whole raid a DHK is a malicious act and completely unwanted.
Seems like you’re more focused on stirring up drama than actually contributing to the discussion, which just proves my original assumption about your toxic behavior.
It’s Blizzard spaghetti code. the DK Penalty is an immediate reduction of your ranking points. I had the same issue but am still Rank 3 0% which is where I was last night. It is a visual bug.
You started this entire conversation by being wrong because you were being anal about dishonorable kills during a week where they do you no harm. That’s where this entire conversation came from. Nothing else.
You believed that dishonorable kills had a negative effect on your honor grind during week 1. You were wrong. Simple as that. Man tf up and just admit you were wrong. Like, this isn’t that hard bro, dam.
This blue post has absolutely nothing to do with why you are wrong. You are simply wrong because you thought dishonorable kills affected honor gain in some tangible way, and they don’t in the first week because you were wrong and you’re terrible at admitting it because you’re trying to find ways to somehow do mental gymnastics to make it how you’re somehow reasonable for making the mistake. No. You were just plain and simply wrong.
Let me make this simple for you since you’re clearly struggling to let it go. My concern about DHKs came from a place of caution because, unlike you, I actually cared about the raid and wasn’t about to risk screwing over other people. I’ve already said I was wrong about their effect in week 1, but apparently, that’s not enough for you because you’re still frothing at the mouth trying to prove a point that’s already been conceded.
