It feels bad having to push super hard to just be average. Raid feels like a chore now. Keys are all the fun i got left.
As a pure DPS class, it’s pretty sad to see all 3 specs in the bottom 5-6 of most encounters on a Mythic difficulty. Especially when they are integral to a raid composition.
Outside of mythic painsmith maybe, mages would see 0 raid spots if int scroll still existed.
Nah, maining a mage for the xpac. Fire and arcane will pick back up with more gear. Blizzard might have to revert the mastery changes to really bring fire back up with the other s tier stuff but it’s viable. Just have the mastery dmg reduce after 8-10 targets are affected.
I also run a prot warrior and prot pally. Since the downfall of survival hunters I’ve really enjoyed this guy and probably won’t bench him as of yet

My sub ends in 1.5 months. The mage performance is a massive issue, but I am just tired of all the chores on top of it. Farming should NOT be bound to character power. Ever.
Power should come from the respective content.
I’m trialing for a guild next week that’s about to kill M Remnant. I think they already have an enfranchised Mage and it sounds like they might not want to run more than one on a lot of fights. So if I fail the trial or pass and get placed on reserves/benched for some prog fights, then I’m probably done for the tier and the expansion unless something changes.
I try not to deal in ultimatums like that (since I play to relax and hopefully clear mythic raid content). It really sucks playing a bottom of the barrel class/spec for multiple content patches. I get that someone needs to be at the bottom, but we are not talking about a 1% difference from top to bottom, we are talking about 12% difference.
Generally speaking, mages seem to lack their specific niche any longer. Many other classes have higher damage per action while retaining higher mobility during those actions. What really makes the difference is the way fights are set up are basically constant movement with heavy burst phases (which run contrary to the frost play style).
The only reason fire has fallen is Blizzard over-reacting to the last content coupled with most top players going frost or arcane.
What Blizzard really needs is a better system of player advocacy. I get that it costs money to do that, but allowing better feedback systems to the devs while allowing better feedback to players about whether popular player ideas are feasible or just not in the cards while be nice.
There have been a lot of great idea in the mage forums for how to fix the specs to normalize their experience while building upon their niche.
That sounds horrible and I’m not sure why anyone would subject themselves to that nonsense.
Which part?
More gear, mythic raiders are pretty well geared. Mages are terrible.
I’m doing fine in my raids, as fire, and we will almost certainly get CE again.
We run two mages (the other is frost/arcane), and she’s doing fine too.
Current prog on soulrender (~20% and likely a kill tonight)
This raid doesn’t even have DPS checks until… gaurdian? slyv? Idk not there yet. Its entirely about doing the mechanics & staying alive.
Good luck on your kill tonight.
doing fine and doing well are two different things. yeah getting CE def possible as mage but when youre playing the class well and always stuck at the middle to bottom of the meters it feels bad.
Personally 9.1 was a disaster. Poor balancing, everything time gated, extremely alt unfriendly. The only saving grace is that SoD is fun, but when you’re raiding on a char that puts up purple to orange parses but end up in the middle to bottom of dps charts it gets old really fast. Compounded with the fact that theyre focused on keeping players by adding character customization instead of actual balancing and content, just feels as if i’m not in their target audience anymore.
We’ll see if anything changes but I have a feeling the end is near. GL everyone.
Thanks!
The thing I really didnt realize was just how bad fire’s passive cleave is until I did soulrender… It would be great if ignite spreading wasn’t so sad this expansion.
Yes, with more gear. There should be another part of this xpac. Fire historically grows and scales better as the gear scores increase
I did a key as fire last night. I did pretty well considering I’m only renown 13 lol. I finished with like 5.6k overall in an 18.
Apparently draven is simming highest for fire aoe.
Won’t quit but likely not going to raid on my mage at all this tier. Doing 4-6 keys a week on him though.
Ya know I see this so often in almost every single post in just about every class forum…
I never can even finish the rest of their post cause most of the time it is just whining they don’t get their way.
I guess what I’m trying to say is… congrats for letting everyone know your sub ends… I’m sure you will be missed since you was a very big impact on everyone ^.^
Should we just go Warlock?
Been mostly doing Mythic+ on my Arcane mage who refuses to go Kyrian. Going to try raiding more soon. It feels abysmal as a mage tho.
