Anybody just want more specs

Not more classes?

I want anything that doesnt tank or heal to get tank or heals.

Gimme my insta q’s while leveling etc.

I will take more of anything. Races, classes, specs… whatever can give this game variation will add to it’s longevity. Balance is already a pipe dream so throw it out the window and go nuts.

I am greedy. I want both.

I’ve thought about adding new specs from time to time. If I were to give every pure DPS class a tank/healing role I’d probably do it like this…

Rogue: Bard (Healer)
Warlock: Life-taker (Healer)
Hunter: This one was tricky but I think I would try to make a spec based on pet tanking. Not sure what I’d call it though.
Mage: Originally my idea here was a time mage to turn back time and undo wounds, but I think that overlaps too much with Preservation Evoker. So now I’ll say WCIII-style Spellbreaker (Tank)

Make Rangers/Sentinels a thing for Hunters, pets like BM+dual wielding glaives/one handed swords and axes.

Adding specs is either much harder to balance if you add a new one to all classes (2 spec to evoker, or 12 new specs to existing classes…) or it opens a big ole can of worms if you just add a spec to a handful of classes and ignore the others for the remainder of the expansion.

I’m all for fourth specs where it makes sense

Problem with “more specs” is, unless you give everyone a new spec, people are going to scream favoritism and the resulting meltdown will be a Mythic headache to PR your way out of.

Still, it is more sustainable than adding whole new classes, but at the same time… a new class is an expansion sales device. New classes are easily advertised and bundled into a sales message. New specs. for what’s already there gets more tricky…

Besides, they’ve been getting super stingy when it comes to that. 2/2 of the last classess added have been missing a spec - we’ve really only gotten 1⅓ new classes by that metric. Saying, “oh, we added another two specs this expansion!” isn’t going to move a lot of copies…

Perhaps a better compromise is to flesh out the specs we DO have? Most of them have at least one canon founded thing or another they can do from world building examples that playable class PCs simply don’t have.

Yes please, i want shock battle mages.

Except Druids, who would be delighted to go back down to 3 specs while the rest of you beg Blizzard to nerf your classes by diluting their abilities. :laughing:

Hmm, could be wrong but iirc isn’t runemaster more shaman theme?

Would go for more of what fits their class and specs, more so with their August Celestial representation.

Ox = Tank
Tiger = Melee Dps
Serpent = Healer
Crane = Ranged Dps

Would go with something like…
Tiger Palm = Tiger Pulse; thrust your palm outwards striking an enemy for X damage upto 40yards away.

Blackout Kick = Blackout Thrust; kick the air fast enough you blast the target with chi energy for X damage upto 40yards away.

Rising Sun Kick = Rising Sun Burst; kicking the air hard enough it ignites dealing X fire damage to target upto 40yrds away.

Spinning Crane Kick = Quill Burst; Release a barrage of crane quills over 1.3 secs to all enemies with in 25yards. Deals reduced damage beyond 5 targets.

Burning Flower Lotus = Call forth chi in the shape of a burning lotus that deals X fire damage to the target and Y damage to all others in the path to the target. If SFL hits upto five times before reaching the primary target, that target takes 5x as much damage.

Flying Serpent Kick = Flying Serpent Burst; fire off a concentrated energy of chi at your target, press again for it to cause the chi to explode and deal X damage to all targets within 8yards.

Etc…

Shaman tanks.

Brand new spec, not “let’s change Enhancement” nonsense.

I’d be happy with just that.

The part that’s missing with that, though, is the marketing angle.

“We made the classes/specs you already have better!” is not a sales point - it’s a default expectation. Revising the specs. every expansion has been par for the course since the game began. You can’t plaster that over an ad and expect anyone to get excited over it.

It’d still have to be something particularly big and specific and thematic - “Blademaster spec for Warriors!” or something gimmicky and potentially unsustainable like that.

Then again, “sustainability” has saddled us with dead talent trees and disposable, carnival goldfish, go-nowhere “progression” systems for too long as it is, so my receptiveness to that factor is nil at this point.

They could have lumped it in with revamping the skill trees though.

Those two things coupled together would have been something to market.

Here are generically the most popular “4th specs” I’ve seen over the years:

  • Shaman Tank - Don’t know why this hasn’t been done yet.
  • Warlock Tank - Niche roughly taken by Vengeance Demon Hunters
  • Hunter Tank - Would require a rework of Beastmaster, potential backlash likely too risky.
  • Rogue Ranged DPS - May bleed into the hunter’s unique play-style too much.
  • Warrior Ranged DPS - Mid-range, uses throwing weapons. Don’t know why this hasn’t been done yet.
  • Monk Ranged DPS - Don’t know why this hasn’t been done yet.
  • Mage Healer - Niche now taken by Evoker Preservation spec.
  • Holy DPS Caster - Holy Priest coming close in DF… not all the way there though. Holy Paladin has sometimes gotten close in the past too.

I’m all for mage tanks.

Just remotely balanced specs and more frequent tuning would be dope.

Just making all of them competitive (not ViAbLe) would make it seem like they added specs.

Shaman - tank
DH - ranged DPS
Warrior - glad stance DPS
Priest - holy damage DPS
