Yes. Names are by far the hardest part of a new character. I’ve put off making a character for over a week because I couldnt settle on a name several times.
I’ve had moments where I think up a name randomly as I’m trying to sleep. So I get up and quickly type it before I forget it.
That happened when I was trying to figure out a name for the father of my Tiefling in DnD. Suddenly the name “Dierhest” popped into my head. You say it like Dearest.
My wife has waited a couple days for me to come up with a name. I’ll message her with about 20 names while I’m at work just thinking about them. She’ll veto them all and the ones I liked are already taken.
So I just end up saying screw it and doing something generic.
My Tiefling has two names. His real name and a name he gave himself like Tieflings are known to do. So I was double dumb and slow to think up stuff lol
I tend to not have AS MUCH of an issue with names on races that don’t use IRL naming conventions.
So… Human (and by association Worgen)? Awful. Pandaren? Awful.
Pretty much anything else ends up being “fantasy” enough where you can fudge things and not have it stand out as “wrong” or “trying too hard to be unique”.
Dwarves seem like they should fall into the problem pit, but for some reason don’t seem to. Maybe just not popular enough, idk.
I oft just look up normal names from various cultures and create derivations thereof until I get one that isn’t taken.
On occasion I will create one that is unique, frequently muttering jumbles of nonsensical words aloud until I catch a string of letters that seems apropos. Nihil novi sub sole, of course, but I try.
