I’ve started to think of upgrading my computer in preparation for Shadowlands. I’m a pretty big newbie when it comes to this sort of thing, but it’s something I’m considering now that I’ve come into a little bit of money (the stimulus check).
My current video card is a “NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645”. This is what I’m looking at purchasing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M25X363/ref=dp_cerb_1
For the most part I’m just wondering if this would be worth purchasing, or whether or not it would even be placable in my computer. I know absolutely nothing about this sort of process, what video cards are or how they work, etc. Would the price tag for something like that yield a worthwhile performance increase and kill my worries regarding the demands of Shadowlands?
(I did post this on the tech support forum a few days ago but didn’t get a lot of response there, and none of my discords are much help either, so I figured I’d give it a shot by asking here)
If you’re looking at GTX 10XX cards, skip it and go look at GTX 16XX cards instead. Exact same pricepoint.
That said, I’m not great at judging if a given piece of hardware fits in a given case or works with a given motherboard.
If you can find your specific case and hardware on https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ it will shoot you a warning if parts are incompatible though. That’s what I’d do if no one answers.
But I’m not even sure if the case on what I assume is a prebuilt Desktop would be something you can find standalone. Is there a model number on it somewhere that you can look up that doesn’t just bring up the whole build?
If you have any information on your CURRENT PC, give us that info.
Also, scroll down to the Off Topic forums, not Tech Support. There is a Games & Hardware section. Traffic is slower than GenDisc, but it’ll probably have more knowledgeable posters.
Is it? I looked at the 1600 cards and found them to be about double the price. The thread also said they likely wouldn’t work with this computer. I’m looking to get the most affordable and worthwhile option I can.
I posted a DxDiag in the tech support thread, if that helps.
FWIW, the guy in that thread said the PSU in your machine would limit GPU upgrades, but the NVIDIA recommended PSU Wattage for the GTX 1650 is 350, while yours is likely 450 at least.
I don’t think the PSU should be an issue (at least not due to wattage).
As far as other reasons it wouldn’t work (I see some stuff about # of pins on the PSU, for example)… unfortunately I still don’t know. Good luck.
Again, just see what answers you get, but I found this thread. The poster seems to have opted for at the very least more RAM, but the system name is the same as yours, so I’m assuming it has the same case and such. If you check the comments, they ended up upgrading to a GTX 1650. Said it just barely fit. No further replies about how it was working or anything though. SHOULD be a good sign that they didn’t come back saying it was a catastrophic failure, but who knows.
Well here’s this if you want a pretty good FPS and graphics
And here’s there if your on the budget.
GPU’s (or Video cards) essentially do most of the heavy sort of lifting for graphics and performance in a video game (and other problems that is GPU reliant like Photoshop) essentially. So if your getting pretty poop FPS, you can swap out for a newer GPU, and get more Framerate or the abilty to have much better graphics if you don’t care about Framerate all that much, or both high framerates and graphics.
And the minimum for Shadowlands is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760, while the recommended is the GTX 1080.
you have nice opinions here, but i want to add one more vision about a good PC for wow -
WoW uses the graphic card all the time…but in some cases wow needs to use MORE the processor when you are around a lot of players. So…
if money is a limitation factor for your, a graphic card nvidia 1650 like the other doods have said and a good processor with 6 cores and 12 theads (6/12) or even 8/16 , will do a good job for wow.
Wow needs a strong processor because games that have a huge amount of npcs or players characters uses more the processor than the graphic card…
BUT, i need to say one more thing :
Shadowlands will bring the “Ray tracing” technology; Ray tracing changes the shadows, creating a real and nice shadow effect on the game. AND the ray tracing technologic only exists in the 2000+ nvidia’s graphic card. I have a 2080 ti - it’s a monstrous card and very expensive…IF YOU CAN , try to get a processor with 8/16 cores/threads and a nvidia 2060 super …if you can’t deal with the price, so…ray tracing can wait, so you buy a 1650 and some 6/12 or 8/16 processor…
