Any recommendations on new keyboard?

Been playing WoW on a laptop for so long and finally decided to invest in a PC. Now I’m struggling with deciding on what type of keyboard I should purchase.

I only really try to play this game for arenas and PvP associated activities, but occasionally dabble a bit in PvE features. With SL coming out, I’m keen in seriously playing the game and want to find a solid and reliable keyboard. Is it just mostly based on personal preference? Or are there particular type of keyboards out there just more apt for WoW/mmorpgs? I’m all ears for opinions and thoughts on this. Thanks!

I guess it really depends what you want. Do you want tenkeyless? Full size? Extra modifiable binds like some of the Corsair rgb keyboards? Mechanical? If so, loud switches, quiet switches, something in between? Wired? Wireless?

Theres honestly so many options man. You can’t go wrong with a Corsair K70 unless you want extra keys and RGB lighting, but I think those aren’t worth the added cost, unless cost is no issue. I really like my hyperx alloy pro tenkeyless. It’s small, durable, and the keys aren’t super spaced out like on some razer or logitech keyboards. I have a ducky shine 4 w/ cherry mx browns that I really like too. Ducky is a super dope brand.

Like I said, it all just comes down to preference. If I knew what yours are I could potentially help you narrow it down a little bit. For me the highest things are solid switches, the color of switch I want, size, durability, and it has to be easy to clean.

Keyboards don’t offer any inherent advantages.

Did a bit of research with the type of key switches I’d be more confortable with, and I’m starting to think the Cherry mx red would be the one. I prefer more tactile and compact keyboards, so might go with the Hyper X Alloy FPS since I’ve heard great things about it. But then again, still not entirely sure with this so might have to experiment with a few before I come up with a resounding answer. But if you know any keyboards that are super compact, feel free to throw their description underneath as I’ll consider them too.

Oh really? I know someone who has just recently bought a Razer Blackwidow Chroma and thinks its an absolutely stellar keyboard after using a Corsair. They mentioned they eased into it very quickly and typing on it was so much convenient than other keyboards. The key sensitivity and response time was really nice too it seems.

I definitely had Logitech in mind too so I’ll have to check out a few of those as well. Gotta say the Logitech G413 looks really good out of the others I’ve seen so far.

do research b4 u buy it is all the advice i can give u i ordered a keyboard b4 this whole quarantine thing and it glitches so often (types the same key twice doesnt register etc) but i cant get anything atm where i live

I don’t like how loud some of these keyboards are. My wife has a razer blackwidow and it sounds like she’s sending a telegraph in ww2.

If you have a tech store near you they usually will have keyboards on display. There’s nothing wrong with using a membrane keyboard either. Lots of people will scoff at it I’m sure, but like I said, there’s no inherent advantage to having a keyboard. I’ve used a Logitech K360 up until like 2 days ago and I just got a Tecware Phantom L. At work I use a Logitech MX Keys. Just find something you’re comfortable with.

Also, red linear switches are the furthest step away from a membrane keyboard you can go. I don’t find that kind of switch enjoyable at all to type on. Blues/Browns that offer a tactile bump feel good to me and don’t make you feel like you’re typing on a puff pastry.

get a mouse with extra buttons on the sides, keyboard doesn’t matter at all unless im missing something

Must be nice playing DH

every class

Don’t worry too much about keyboard, a good mouse is more important

Lots of options, small, big, mechanical, non-Mech, added keys, RGB… can’t go wrong with most of them.

All I will tell you is get a keyboard that also has volume sliders / volume mute built into it. Actually a huge quality of life improvement along with other multi media buttons (like forward, back, pause, etc for music) when it comes to quickly turning down your system sound without having to alt tab or go down to your task bar :+1:

Cherry mx reds aren’t a bad switch at all, and the most popular I’d say. Blacks and browns are probably the most fluid feeling coming from a membrane keyboard. Browns are also particularly quiet which is a plus if noise is an issue.

There are a few inherent advantages to a mechanical keyboard though. Replacement part availability, easier to clean, and the key caps are super easy to take off.

my black widow started double typing 3 or 4 months after i got it and now it randomly double types a lot. known issue and i am never buying another razer product, 2 nagas took a crap after 4 months and the keyboard, while nice at first, double types to all hell down the road.

I love my logitech stuff… g600 going strong after 4 years.

I personally run with a TKL

Cherry brown switches, lubed for her pleasure, then the custom wood accents and blank caps make it.

If you’re looking for something simple and cheaper, I’ve heard good stuff about HyperX boards.

I’ll second this, I have a logietch keyboard that I switched from and it lasted me a solid 4 years before I felt the need to replace it. I didn’t replace it because I had to, I replaced it because I wanted something custom.
