Outside of just hitting cap. I like having side RP characters even though i havent RP’d in years. but just in case. at this point i’m considering boosting another warrior just to have it prot only. I feel like carrying around a whole tanking set and getting a whole tanking set is a lot more of a drag than just starting a new warrior and gearing them fresh.
Maybe it’s the sense of progression? Like, If i gear this warrior to prot and i only want to DPS there’s a chance the new gear won’t be worth it and instead i’m stagnating collecting lower ilevel gear but for an off spec i might not play. Having a new character makes it feel like you’re still progressing.
Also i have a 70 boost and not sure what to do with it.
I would have one for PvE and one for PvP so I didn’t have to choose between PvP and PvE rewards from Vault.
I don’t think that’s relevant anymore though.
Different aesthetics.
My first hunter was a Darkspear Troll, then Zandalari came out so I race-changed him.
Undead Hunters became a thing in Cataclysm, I mained one in Legion. Got the mage tower weapons on him.
In SL, I played a Mechagnome Hunter.
In DF, I mained a Dark Iron Dwarf Hunter (BM), and swapped over to Kul’Tiran (Surv) and that’s my Hunter main ever since.
And all of my Hunters have matching mogs, pets, mounts, you name it.
As a bonus, I got the heritage sets as well.

From a RP perspective, multiple races could fit the ideal fantasy you want for a particular class. For gameplay, they could be a fresh start for PvP rating, gearing and so forth.
as a hunter main for many many years i respect that! Makes me feel less bad about wanting a few warriors for fun!

I have a Prot only Pally, this one.
I also have a Man’ari Ret Pally.
That was my boost as I wanted a red skinned Draenei.
I play them both, but they can actually change specs if needed, not sure wth I’m doing actually, but it’ fun so I don’t question it too much.
I have 2 warriors and 2 paladins, the reason I do is because I can farm transmogs on both 1 horde and 1 alliance. but unfortunately, since the game stop making horde specific content, I only play 1 of each now.
Have 2 druids and 2 dks. One of them is for PvE and the other is for PvP. Helps keep bag space reserves to a minimum while also not having to deal with adding / removing keybindings based on the content.
There’s no real reason. I have multiples of the same class and I mostly do it just for creating little dollies to dress up and sometimes RP with. I usually have a character based around a certain spec in mind. For example my goblin mage is fire, and my tauren is arcane. It’s physically impossible to play all the characters I have to any serious degree, so they’re just kept for vibes, basically. Occasionally I’ll swap them around if I want a different look rather than having to pay for a race transfer whenever I want it.

If you are farming for mounts or mog in old dungeons/raids and want to play a familiar class, having 2++ of the same class is useful.
Also if you just enjoy playing that class a lot and enjoy going through the leveling experience many times and maybe some minimal gearing, no reason not the have duplicates.
Some people want one of each race that can be a class, and maybe even both body types.
Then there is the fun part of using a naming convention to tie all those characters together. I personally give most of my druids a bird themed name because I can.

Any reason to have multiple of the same class maxed?
While it is possible to play all the specializations with one 'toon in each class it is just easier to have separate 'toons for different specs.
Also, my red haired 'toon doesn’t like my blue haired 'toons clothing and neither of them want what a blond like Tiffany wears. More 'toons means more hair and clothing choices.
Before dual-spec was a thing, I knew a guy in Wrath that had four druids- one for each spec, and that was before feral was split in two, so he legit had a cat and bear druid seperate from one another lol.
Dude was kinda insane, he had much more time than I ever did.
All of his druids were 80, even back then before heirlooms lol.
It was honestly impressive, I still think of him even now.
Different aesthetics, some specs within the same class want vastly different stats so having gear for one spec won’t necessarily translate to having gear for all specs, wanting to take another spec step by step as you level instead of trying to parse every ability and talent all at once

theres no real benefit for it, but its fun. i have like 4 warlocks and 5 mages lol
i only get classes up to 80 in case i start having a mental breakdown over my main class being bad
I like leveling up in a new spec that I want to play.
I do just fine switching specs at max level, reading a guide and doing a few test runs to get good enough with it…but playing a spec from level 10 onwards, you learn nuances you wouldn’t have otherwise
I never had more than one of a class until panda remix happened. Suddenly had two of several.
I have mirror classes for playable options. I have 3 of each max Druid, Pally, and Mage… all identical. This way I can play with different friends in different regions on different factions and not have to relearn other classes. All of their bars, abilities, professions, etc are mirrored.

Class specific rolls for legacy runs.
I had several hunters level capped up to SL for this. Brute force the rng.
Mail armour drops, bows and rifles. all to them.
A few paladins, dks, dh’s.
also I played both sides. Each side get at least 1 of classes ran.
