Any reason to go to a low pop realm

I wanted to start a new alt on a fresh server. Curious if there’s any sort of advantage starting on a lower population server

Zero advantage.

The world will be full of people, just like it is on Illidan or Area 52 but a dead realm will have a dead AH and guild recruitment, unlike Illidan and Area 52.

You’ll regret it. Go find a Medium one at least.

Thanks to sharding, you probably wouldn’t notice a difference anyway unless you tried to find a guild.

Depends on whether you’re a solo player or not.

If you don’t care about guilds, then it would be fine.

If you want to raid, you’re going to want a server with at least a Medium pop.

The only use for low pop realm is to farm rare spawns, you don’t want to be there long-term.

Nope. CRZ destroyed that.

p.s. for rare hunting, you roll on RP realms since they are only CRZ’d with other RP realms.

I moved to Blackhand from Stormrage during Legion and I really regret it and I’m probably going to move back now that I’ve decided to resub. Dead servers still have a fully populated world thanks to sharding and cross-realm tech but your AH will still be empty and your server’s entire raiding scene will be like 3 guilds, only one of which even attempts mythic.

Basically, since CRZ became a thing you get all the downsides of a dead server (AH, guilds) and none of the old upsides (a pristine world to farm to your heart’s content in).

There used be to be a lot of good reasons. I really miss having a low pop realm to spend time on. Because of how x-realm stuff works and phasing and all that… the only thing you get on a small realm is a bad economy where everything costs way to much.

I wish low pop realms were a thing again. Made farming rares, mounts, mogs, pets, etc… 100x easier and more enjoyable.

Only thing I can think of is the competition for the items in the BMAH would be low.

Other then that no.

What he said. I should have the whole world to myself as everyone on Blackhand is there due to CRZ. So I get none of the advantages of a low pop realm, easy material gathering and questing due to no competition and none of the advantages of a high pop realm, easy grouping better guild selection etc.

I thought that if you are playing on the current expansion CRZ don’t kick in until the next expansion started? This is for playing in the current zones.

They did that from MoP to the start of Legion. Every thing but like Org and Stormwind is CRZ’d now.

There is no benefit to playing a small server. The AH will be sparse and there will probably be a lack of guilds.

No reason to have 200+ servers anymore. They need to fix it
