Queue times, transfers, faction imbalance. I have personal reasons why I haven’t played classic but a lot of these threads haven’t been encouraging.
Yes, there are. Don’t judge classic by what you read on the forums. There are two kinds of people who come to the forums…people who just want to complain and people who are bored at work.

Three kinds now, cough dodgers.
It appears to me that a lot of the threads are representative of people who are fed up with something and are complaining. If you use these forums to gauge the WoW Classic experience, I suspect your measurement will be incredibly off.
I’m hanging out in Westfall. Ally heavy, but relatively sane.
Kurinaxx is pretty good. I believe its 59%horde 41% alliance, community is great, no queue times but also not even close to being a dead server. Its a good home

The only place that realms are “in chaos” is on the forums. If you actually log in people are just playing the game.

PvE realms for the most part.
Eh, the biggest problems out there are PvP realm specific. At worst we’d get to the point of the realm being locked, but a faction imbalance doesn’t hurt nearly as much when wPvP is an active choice. (And I hope, like Grobbulus, it would be locked before every considering layering. :Snarls at Blizzard devs: Don’t even THINK about it.)

Virtually all realms have downsides. You shouldn’t care about faction imbalance though. It’s a non issue. Just make sure you pick a medium population server with a healthy population for the faction. Don’t join a high population realm as they’re being flooded daily by people fleeing other realms.

Those are all PVP servers. None of the thousands of players on PVE servers have any of those problems.
Also, the forums are the MOST unhappy and MOST upset 1% of the players. The 99% of players who are happy (or mildly unhappy) never create posts. This forum is the complainers.

Kirtonos is mostly fine. Prob heavy on the Horde side but it’s far from lopsided from my experience.
PvE servers seem to be doing fine.
Avoid the mega realms and you avoid 99% of the problems Classic has right now.
What’s wrong with mega realms? They’re the servers that are active. What’s wrong with that?
