I’d sure give it a go.
Chance of happening: Less than 1% I’d say.
If you think of the concept of Starcraft…it’s not built to be an MMO. Zerg troops are too different in terms of looks that it wouldn’t be feasible to create a playable faction for them. The Starcraft universe has always been about Terran vs. Protoss vs. Zerg so the MMO must also reflect that.
It’s possible that they could just do a Terran only MMO but that would be too bland. Having only Terran and Protoss seems odd as well.
I can however see a single or co-op 3rd-person shooter game where you play as a squad of Terran soldiers(with different classes) going through a story campaign that takes place throughout the SC1 and SC2 story lines. In fact…I’d play that.
I think someone made a mod of it via the SC2 editor and Blizz threatened to sue them. In the end I think Blizz decided to hire (attempt to hire?) the ppl instead.
I remember Blizzard saying their new game in the making was Starcraft, Ghost … there was some artwork ,and then WOW was released … the few pic’s looked good . 2002 / 2003
Well Starcraft is an RTS, I quite enjoy the RTS style of building a bases and conquering new territory, for me that’s a lot of fun.
The issue I have with World of Starcraft, is that at this point in the Starcraft series, that the player-character feels to be thrown to the wayside. For instance, the actions of the Protoss player-character in Starcraft 1 were ascribed to Artanis, and rumour has it that the Protoss executor in Brood War was Selendis. The Zerg cerebrate player characters both died in the lore, and they rarely even got a mention in Starcraft 2.
As for the Terran commanders, that’s the worst of it, because they seem to have retconned the Rebel Yell commander, to simply being Jim Raynor himself, but I don’t care; in my view, I was commander of that campaign!! I existed! Anyway, the Terran Captain of episode 5 probably got killed by Kerrigan when trying to get the UED fleet back to earth, or maybe he escaped somewhere in the sector, who knows.
The point is this, the player character no longer exists in the Starcraft series. In SC2, you literally play as Raynor, Kerrigan or Artanis. This would make a World of Starcraft difficult to pull off, as suddenly you are going from being a specific hero of your choice, to some random marine?
Do you think they could pull that off?
No, because they never made “Titan.” Was that what it was called? They decided there was no money in another MMORPG, so they made “Overwatch” instead:
Unfortunately, this is now a self fulfilling prophesy; “Overwatch” has made them lots of money, so now they are even more unlikely to ever make another MMORPG.
I don’t even think we will ever see a “Wow 2”, unless you basically agree that we are playing it now. I think this game still does more than well enough to get new expansions, but not well enough that they’d make new MMORPGS.
I think if they were just able to port the engine to something more modern in a few expansions it would solve a bunch of problems.
The game engine is fine, especially compared to most other MMOs.
The problem is with content and game systems design, LOL
The game engine no matter how much they tweak it will not utilize anywhere near the same hardware resources as something modern.
With Microsoft on board, do you guys think any starcraft stuff in the near future?
