Do the mining bags still have the problem that ore doesnt automatically get put into it when its collected?
One thing to consider that I did not know for years; the table missions that offer upgrades to your followers are worth doing if youāre going to be there for long, the higher the ilvl of your followers, the better some of the rewards can be. Raid tier gear for you, and primal spirits and such. And once you get (I think) 10 followers to ilvl 650, you can then buy upgrades for them on other characters.
Primal spirits are quite handy to have around if youāre trying to level crafting professions.
I have not had that problem on any of my miners with these bags. I canāt say it isnāt an issue, only that I havenāt had one.
I noticed it on my engineer - when I had an engineering bag, the ore is put in there rather than the mining bag.
Curious, on my engineer, I only had the engineering bag in my bank, but I could see how that might be an issue.
If you donāt have a fully upgraded garrison on another character already⦠then yes⦠there are reasons to complete it atleast once⦠but even then it depends on how much you care about certain thingsā¦
Reason #1: transmogs⦠there are a lot of cosmetics to be unlocked through the garrisonā¦
Reason #2: heirloom rings⦠for this you first need a fully upgraded garrison and then to unlock the garrison docks⦠upgrade them all the way by completing the full quest chain for them⦠then go fight a specific rare spawn to get a quest item to unlock a set of missions on the docks mission board⦠three of which will reward heirloom ringsā¦
Reason #3: mounts⦠there are a couple mounts that can only be obtained after you have a finished garrison⦠not a whole lot but a fewā¦
Reason #4: bags⦠if your a tailor the garrison can offer you the cheapest and quickest way to outfit your characters with some of the highest slot bags in the gameā¦
Beyond that though⦠no real pressing reason to finish itā¦
I use it on my toons for a minimal amount of gold. its there for when i have exhausted, in one way or another, other things to do in game for gold. its mostly just hexweave bag making, tbh, but I use the trading post trade vendor to buy sumptuous furs with my garrison resources and send them to my tailor so she can use the tailoring building to make hexweave cloth. to get the sorcerous earths, i just use the mine for ore amd just put in work orders at the blacksmith building, and that sometimes yeilds the earths. but its kinda a low drop rate.
if you like mounts, get the stables, in a week or so of dailies (i think. its been a while. i may be wrong on the timing) you can get⦠i think its four or six mounts. then theres two achieves using items you find on the floor of the stables, depending on its level. you get a mount for each of those achieves.
thereās also a mount mission that pops up on the mission table, which can be sold on the auction how for a nominal amount of gold. i think my coalfist gronnlign sold for like 3-5K. i donāt remember. but the mission seldom pops up.
thereās a shipyard mission that rewards a soulbound riverbeast mount.
with some work, you can make an AH at the trading post building. this will come in handy during SL prepatch to avoid getting zombified while AH selling. plus mailbox and bank are available in the garrison as well. one stop shop. if my bank alts were high enough, iād be working on it for them to camp in during prepatch⦠but alas, one is 22, the other 58.
so in short, there are some benefits, but none are really game changing tbh. youāre unliekly to make the gold invested in it very quickly. so unless you have the extra time and gold, i wouldnāt worry about it too much.
I donāt know about completing it 100% but it is useful to level the main base to lvl 3 to get the LFR npc and the shipyard quest that enables teleporting from ashran to tanaan later on.
Also the storehouse lvl 3 that enables banking, guild banking and void storage
You can have trade building with auctioneer too but i think thatās overkill (there are auctioneers at a portal distance in ashran)
If you want materials for draenor recipes for any reason it might be a good idea, otherwise you get a port to your main city at I think level 2 or 3 garrison, which allows your garrison hearth to be a bit useful if your actual hearthstone is on cd.
Canāt really think of any other points outside of cosmetics which people have mentioned. It used to be great for money back in the day, but they removed that functionality at the end of WoD (which is why youāll see followers are able to get two different traits that increase resource acquisition, one used to be gold)
Hoping they at least reduce the cost of the garrison in SL. Itās pretty nuts what they want you to dish out on this obsolete content. At least back when wod was relevant you got your gold back.
In addition to what others have mentioned, when your characters are in the level 90ās, picking herbs and ores in your Garrison gives you huge chunks of XP to help you zip through WoD and reach 98 faster to move onto Legion content.
For example, every single herb and ore I gathered gave me 8100 XP each on my level 97 character. The fishing shack daily gives you a decent amount of XP every day as well.
You donāt have to complete, just a lv2 Garrison will do.
This thread is a good comprehensive list for all the stuff to get out of the garrison. Iāve been avoiding working on it mostly because grinding out Draenor Pathfinder as a returning player two years ago made me hate WoD, but I think Iām ready now to give the garrison another shot.
Wellā¦your own private space with bank, tmog, AH, glider builder (if you chose engineering building)
There are some cool features worth having. Your own AH and bank are really convenient. If you are a tailor having one of those shops to crank out cloth is worthwhile as well.
I know garrisons get a lot of flak, but I really like mine. I have Christmas decorations up year round on my Horde ones and Halloween up on my Alliance ones.
You can get some alright titles from the fight club. Dunno how easy they are to get now though since ashran is a shell of itās former self.
You can also get a stone that instantly levels a pet to 25. I mean if youāre in that.
Plus the alliance garrison looks AMAZING at level 3 with maxed buildings. I mean its one of the coolest looking places in game imo.
Draenor alchemy still has useful recipes even now. Probably worth it for a few of the tradeskills.
I always get my new garrisons up to level 3 so I have the mage tower. That gives me an extra hearth sometime when everything else is on cooldown.
But given how fast draenor is to complete, it usually takes me months to go back 4 times to collect enough resources to do that. Which is supposed to be optional, but apparently isnāt.
Thank you for all the replies. I really appreciate the input.
I think what I am going to do is write off my human mageās garrison, keep my dwarf shamanās garrison at level 2 and have my worgen warlock, who is a tailor and enchanter, create a level 3 garrison (and do the shipyard questline) based on the great info in this thread.
Decorations: Halloween (sheās a worgen!)
Large buildings:
- Stables for mounts
- Barracks forā¦the troops to sleep in?
Medium Buildings:
- Barn for fur to support her tailoring profession
- Trading Post for resources to speed things along
Small Buildings
- Tailoring Emporium to support her tailoring profession
- Enchanters Study to support her enchanters profession
- Savage Yard because she already has the pattern for free, for resources to speed things along and to explain the eternally empty space across from it (why Blizzard?)
I might even get my grandson to coach me thru pet battles to open the menagerie at some point. I am not into pet battles but I am looking for the perfect pet for each of my characters.
I purposely decided to skip the storehouse as my worgen is doing dailies in Pandaria for patterns at the same time so she is zipping back and forth every day via hearthstone to a place with bank/AH/transmog anyway (although my mage does find in quite handy.)
But the floor is still open for thoughts.
For the small buildings, I never really find the Enchant one to be useful that often. My two perma-smalls are Storehouse 3 (banks and transmogs) and Scrapyard 3 (upgrades and transmogs), and then whatever primary crafting hut seems best. For my Tailor/Enchant, I had the Enchant hut until I learned all of the patterns, and then switched permanently to the Tailoring one.
