Any point in leveling before the XP decrease?

I recently unlocked Mag’Har orcs and I want to level one but is there really a point in doing so until the 8.1 XP changes?

You’ll have an achievement that’s dated before 8.1 and you can brag you level a character during the hell year. That’s about it.

I leveled a void elf rogue and lightbound pally to 110 when I unlocked em back in legion. It can be done you just gotta have the wanttoo. Not saying you should but I can be done.

Depends.

If you’re thinking about switching mains, that gives you a few resets worth of gear before 8.1. With that anniversary buff, it’s pretty fast comparatively.

If you’re just leveling an alt, I’d say no. Just wait until the XP buffs.

Do you want to level now or later because the update is still a month away.

Use your +14% thing in the mail - the anniversary boost. It disappears in a while so you may as well make the most of it. Then park your dude / dudette in an inn until Dec 11th.

There’s nothing wrong with leveling, so sure, go ahead and level.

You could have a max level, fully geared toon before the xp decrease kicks in

You’ll be a much higher level now than waiting for it later?

We do have the anniversary bonus which sort of makes up for not having the leveling nerf.

But, I’ve been holding off on it for the HoA changes and leveling nerf changes… even if I were to level alts I would never grind HoA rep on a second toon right now.

I’m currently leveling an Mag’har Orc Shaman I had let sit at 78 for weeks because dungeon queues got so bad. With the anniversary XP buff and doing primarily quests it has been going super fast.

I got through Pandaria in less than 2 zones.

I barely touched the 2nd zone of WOD before moving on to Legion.

I just started the 3rd zone of Legion last night at level 109. If there is an invasion going on when I get back online later I’ll be done with Legion.

Got a 3-day weekend coming up which should be more than enough to get the heritage armor.

110-120 sure go ahead, the anniversary xp buff and war mode make it fast. 1-110 not really.

Getting to 60 is easy.

60 - 80 is so painful that slamming your genitals in a car door repeatedly might be more fun.

80 - 90 is all the quests in Jade Forest and a couple hubs in Valley of the 4 winds.

90 - 100 you will be 91 before you even plant your flag in your garrison. Pick up the treasure on the ground, do the bonus objectives. About 30 minutes per level.

100 - 110. Yeesh. I blinked and missed 5 levels just doing Azuna and the Lights Hope quest line for my artifact color.

50% Full Looms + 14% Anniversary + 15% War Mode = Win.

Probably not really. I went through the whole leveling thing more times than I’d care to admit, including on a mag’har orc for the heritage armor. I’m thankful they’re releasing this leveling decrease with Zandalari trolls, which is the only allied race I really want right now. Thankfully, that’ll make life easier.

I don’t see the point in waiting. It’s one thing if the patch were dropping in a few days, but as of this post 8.1 is still exactly three weeks away. Unless you played incredibly casually, you could easily level several characters from 1 to 120 in that time. Or you could level one and obtain halfway decent gear for it.

People are also overestimating how significant these changes are. Yes, it’ll make the road to 110 faster, but I don’t think it’ll be so much faster that sitting on your hands for three weeks would be beneficial. Waiting just puts you behind the gearing curve for no real reason or benefit.

Unless of course it’s an alt you don’t really care about, but if you didn’t care it seems unlikely that you’d be here asking about this.

Well, considering you can still gain levels now why wait? The patch isn’t coming out until December. I guess if you rather start at level 1 (or 20 for allied race) in Dec vs likely hitting level 70-80+ (depending on your play style) by Dec then that is up to you.

Honestly I didn’t mind the leveling; it was even more enjoyable when they opened the other expacs up for a change of pace vs the BC grind (ignoring scaling issues). I mean, it definitely wasn’t the most memorable because Hellfire’s “awe” impact dies off after the 3rd toon since BC was current lol

I guess I wouldn’t go hog wild, but you will move the starting line up a few feet if you keep going before the experience change.

Use the Anniversary buff for 110-120 not only do you get the XP gain but also the Reputation gain as well; But be quick because it will be ending soon.

After 8.1 hits in December then try leveling your alts with the XP gain that WoWhead is saying will go into effect. (The Anniversary Buff is only good until the event ends this month).

Just hit 110 on my Mag’har Orc and got the heritage armor. Guess I won’t be needing that 3-day weekend to get to 120 now! What a pleasant surprise!
