A lot of the criticism of WPVP is the fact that it is typically a large group of players camping a flight path, and ganking unfortunate solo players as they land. Often this is done to complete CTA or AOO (when available), and other times it’s done just to grief/fun (depending upon your perspective).
The problem with raids attacking a city is it often turns into a giant lagfest, and there are plenty of people on the “defending” side that may have 0 interest in PVP at that time (or at all).
Would anyone be interested in attending scheduled WPVP events where both sides could make a decision to participate or not? I was thinking we could schedule it in the weekly CTA zone, outside of a base or flight path.
For example, we could schedule it this Saturday @ 2pm EST (or whenever most people agreed). We would meet at the Stormsong Valley mountain area where the azerite quest always is. I was picturing the old school Tarren Mill vs South Shore battles. If you want to fight, you simply show up at the scheduled time.
We might have to create raids so everyone could end up in the same shard, but I’d like to avoid that if possible so people could complete CTA if they need to. This would allow people to come engage in some WPVP, complete their quest, and have some totally optional fun.
Does this interest anyone, or do we think it would end up with the major PVP guilds/communities degrading it into a giant lagfest? My goal would simply be to have fun with like minded people (a pvp play-date more or less).
The last part is what concerns me. I believe it would end up with the major PvP guilds/communities degrading it into a giant lagfest like they always do.
Basically, even if you were to schedule something, say a 20v20, as soon as one side starts losing, they’ll just bring more to compensate. Eventually it’ll be a lagfest where both sides are trying so desperately to outnumber the other.
If you were going to schedule something, it’d have to be a small-medium scale fight. I honestly prefer going around in a group of 5, that’s about it. 5v5, 10v10, maybe a 15v15, is fine for me.
My preferred place to fight? Probably Nazmir, for reasons being, if a large raid group appears, there’s a way of dealing with them easily.
Sounds interesting, but we would all have to be on the same shard.
I recommend all phasing into a RP realm (like ED) since the phasing is better there (since RP realms are separate from normal realms).
This would basically go against the spirit of the event (in my mind anyway). The goal isn’t to win per se, just go kill some people and have fun. Alas, you are probably right.
And that’s fine, I agree with you. The goal would be to kill some people, have some fun. (You win some, you lose some you know?)
But some people take the game way too seriously. Winning is fine, it’s fun, but it would start going against the spirit of the event whenever they start to bring more players just trying so desperately to win.
I would love to schedule something, maybe a 5v5 or 10v10 if you were down for it. You wouldn’t need to worry about us trying to outnumber you or anything, though you’d need to watch out for stray Horde passing by who might step in.
Wargames are arena based and quite limited. My suggestion was for an open world free for all type of event. That’s why I referenced TM vs SS battles of old for a frame of reference. Wargames are nothing like that.
As Nomak said, War Games are arena based and follow tournament rules. They’re limited in what you can do, what you can use, and where you can fight.
Personally, I would enjoy a nice 5v5, 10v10, or a 15v15 battle at one of the old world zones. It’d be amazing to fight at that arena ground in Feralas, in Dire Maul. There’s more areas but I can’t think of them at the top of my head.
Agreed. Did this a few times I think in MoP. It’s been a while. Just picked an old zone many of us hadn’t been to in a while, and arranged a roughly even skirmish. Typically 10-20 people. Had a great moment when the enemy raid dropped from a tree that was overlooking a road in Ashenvale. Took us completely by surprise.
You can use battlegrounds, too. I don’t know if you can use the Tarren Mill brawl.
They actually default to nontournament rules, though you can set tournament rules if you want.
If you want the numbers to stay even, I agree you are better off picking an old world zone where you won’t be affecting any random questers. Otherwise you will inevitably interfere with random people who will be perfectly justified in calling in help if they feel like it.
