I read that FF XIV Shadow bringer introduced AI companions for dungeons. As a DPS player, running normal dungeons solo with four AI would be amazing because I don’t have to wait for the queue.
I believe that heroic and mythic dungeons should absolutely be done with a group of players, but normal dungeons could have the option of it being done with AI or with other players.
Not to mention it is a good opportunity to add an additional layer to the dungeon’s narrative by having NPCs comment while you play with them.

Sorry that this post does not address your question, but I’m looking for a game that does this and is similar to WoW, does anybody know of some games with this feature?
It’s a great system for FF14. It didn’t add to the queue time for everyone else. The run takes longer because companions don’t AoE. It’s a little more boring ad a result. Item drops are only one random piece per chest or boss (not tailored to your class), so it’s hard to really farm a specific item to gear up.
With limitations like that, I’m all for it. I love it in FF14 for those times that I have to go afk often but still want to get something done. I’d love to see it in WoW.

I enjoyed the feature. IIRC the loot drops weren’t as good, but it was a good way to learn the dungeons without worrying about keeping up with a group. Especially good for learning to tank the dungeon.

Do what Old Republic did: story mode with one AI that does everything. You just don’t get gear drops.
Not that I trust Blizz’s AI to do that.

Well, dropping one piece of gear per normal run with AI is not unreasonable.
Thank you for your suggestion! I am looking into it now and I have a few questions if it is ok: Is Guild Wars the same as Guild Wars 2 or are they like expansions in WoW? And do both have the feature? To what level can you use this feature (does it apply in endgame)? Also, can you go with one friend and 3 AI for example, or is the AI only a solo experience?
Guild Wars 1 allowed henchmen (AI) to accompany you in instance content, which was all content - the only open world areas were towns/outposts.
You could equip and level and even mog your henchmen. Plus, the game had controls you can use to manage them, basically like more advanced pet AI in WoW. You can solo a lot of the content - if not all - with this setup, but there were more ideal classes to play when doing so. Such as RDPS or even heals, so you can watch out for the AI better.
There really wasn’t a tank spec, per se, because aggro worked very differently in GW1, but there were healers and dps.

That would be Guild Wars the original. Not Guild Wars 2. Completely different game. Ive played Guild Wars 2 as well but I don’t know if AI is in GW2 tbh.

What an interesting concept. I think that would be the final nail in the coffin as wow would truly be a single player game. I guess I don’t see why not

Everquest has had mercenaries for years. There should be something similar in WoW.

95% of group contents in WoW is through PvP, raids, some WQs, and high level Dungeons.
This really wouldn’t change much.
It does show Blizzard can make it work, they showed that well enough in Exile’s Reach. Though it probably run into issues of course but for the most part, could work. I’d be happy if they do it for normal dungeons only.
No, no AI for content. It was absolutely horrible when they introduced it in battlegrounds and it won’t be any better for dungeons.
AI can make some pretty odd choices that mess with your gameplay. Ask any class that has a pet, the AI can get you in serious trouble unless you have good control of the pet. My Demonology warlock is constantly stuck in combat or has his minions attacking nonsense targets because you only get direct control of one of your minions, the rest are all AI.
I’d rather they just made content scalable and tune it better than have AI companions to do that content.
Would be a great jumping off point for new people to learn dungeon mechanics. Especially if the npc dialogue also worked like a tutorial. Reminding to interupt or pointing out other mechanics.
theres still a community of players… I thought about this on the weekend lol.
Im in an end game rut in GW2, im a “fresh noob” in ESO, and we all know what WoW is going through atm…

I’m all for this. A ton of people only play solo due to anxiety or just being anti social. This would give them a chance to see dungeon content and work towards slow gear progression.
the new expansion (june) for Elder Scrolls Online is adding in a companion. Gear, skills and so on
GW1 is a little outdated, though it still has a community there. GW1 definitely did the companion thing excellent, nothing compares, still, to this day, to that system. GW2 is nothing like GW1, they only share the world and story.
in regards to ESO though, the animations and clunkly combat are off putting for some. Theres no “true” auction house or trading post. you have to join a trader guild. Like GW2, theres no monthly, you have to purchase first, however, ESO does a really good sub service. You get stuff “unlocked”. Im not going to describe it all…
The reason so many people do play ESO though, its really solo friendly. Probably the most solo friendly mmo on the market.
The story takes place about (1000 years in the past) before Oblivion and Skyrim (if youve played those games).
public dungeons are not that same as queueing for a random (they exist), think of them like a big cave with a mini boss at the end.
the world scales with you. there are no level 25 zones. you can come back with 160 champion points and get relevant gear.
and other stuff i wont flood you with.
