Love arena, but do not have the time to grind gear in the 8.2 iteration.
Are there any games similar but without the arguably unnecessary grind?

even if you take out your unrealistic request for a MMO without grinding, no there aren’t any games that come close to having what WoW arena offers.
If there were, nobody would be here putting up with blizzards progressively deteriorating design philosophy and seemingly intentional abuse of the pvp community.
Actually the closest you’ll find is probably SWTOR. They have 4v4 arena style battlegrounds and a class system that was basically pirated from WoW.
Problem is Swtor was clunky and outdated as a game engine when it launched, and hasn’t updated at all. And that tanks are meta.

I found FF14 Feasts to be decent and they use templates like Legion.
SWTOR still the best PvP mmo.

SMITE is a moba.
but its different. its third person. not top down.
SMITE is a dead game on twitch, but you get ques all the time. very popular game on steam.
SMITE has a one lane, 3v3 game mode called joust. its very popular. since its one lane, its more about team fighting than typical moba mechanics. its very much like wow arena.
its a free game. try it. if you hate it you hate it. it might scratch that itch though.
can we appreciate how this is a 6 month necro and actually still the same season?
