In vanilla I played a male human, but now with my older tastes I prefer the look of female dwarfs (males are OK but a bit too close in width and height for my tastes) out of all the race and gender combinations. I also think their animations are better, because humans just run weird.
Kind of nice as well that they are generally one the least played of the character models.
My only slight concern is losing the weapon skill racial as I intend to play a warrior-- though I think I’ll go Arms.
Has anyone else exhibited a taste change in their favoured race over the many years?

I used to play Gnome Male back when WoW first launched, as a Rogue, this time I have a Night Elf Female (Druid), Gnome Female (Mage), and Human Male (Paladin).
Although since I might switch to one of the new servers coming on Monday, I may make that Paladin a female if I can get the name I had in mind for Human Female.
I certainly want a male undead, but I’m struggling to choose which class. I may just resign myself to a warlock, but for some reason to me it seems almost too obvious and puts me off a bit.
My warlock was human so I suppose for me it’s fine. Originally I considered recreating my old characters but now I’ve decided to go for different ones.
Did you just assume their gender?

We’re not having that conversation here.
In World of Warcraft there is a clear definition in creation, male and female.

Yeah, she’s at the bar with her hot human friend.
So, someone has to talk to her while I talk to her friend.

Not sure about a change in taste but I wanted to be a special snowflake so I’m rolling a female tauren hunter on a PvP server.

Not sure if you’re actually look for an IRL female Oompa Loompa or if you mean a digital female dwarf…
If I wasn’t going Horde I’d go Female Dwarf.

I suspected as much but you should be aware of how easy it is for threads to immolate.
Tauren were always my favs and i used to hate the trolls. Over the years now, though, i have come to love the trolls.
As far as playing a female dwarf, that’s what i plan on doing on my alliance characters. I dont really care for alliance but thats what my friend is playing this time so i am going to make a female dwarf rogue. Should be fun.
I’m not going to entirely deflect that accusation. I do prefer women of a shorter stature - and long braided pony tails don’t hurt either. However that doesn’t mean I’m looking for an Oompa Loompa.
Honestly though it’s a case of elimination. Male dwarfs are too rotund for my tastes. Both humans have weird run animations. Night elf males, well, do I have to say anything? Females are played too much and I don’t like their attack animations. Gnomes, well, Gnomes are fine but not as melee.
On a slight tangent, one thing I’ve just recalled is I’d love to do some tanking in 5mans on an Enhancement shaman again with Rockbiter on. I used to do that quite a bit and it was so much fun. He was an orc back in vanilla so I’m going for a female troll.
Yes, lots of females this time round, but that’s because I think they look better now. Especially on Alliance. Male trolls and orcs I hate the hunch. Definitely male undead though, and he’ll most likely be a warlock.
I expect people to experiment more with this kind of thing, also paladin tanking now that Righteous Fury is in from the start line rather than much later in.
I actually love how they fight with a staff, but hate how they fight with a polearm. Even though it’s the exact same animation.
Two-handed is fine with a sword, but other than that, it’s a bit wonky.
And I’ve never had a problem with the one-handed animations.
My main has always been horde and a priest but I’m struggling with their fugly races, really struggling.
So I have, to begin with, made a dwarf priest. Played human before but faction transferred her so lets see how long this one will last.
People will appreciate your Fear Ward.
My wife is rolling a female dwarf priest. She probably won’t ever raid, so she really doesn’t care about fear ward, she just thinks they’re adorable. I’m rolling a dwarf hunter for that sweet +guns skill, ya know, because I’ll be using so many guns in vanilla raids (actually rolling because I like stoneform more than post-nerf shadowmeld for pug pvp).

They aren’t actually dwarves… real dwarves have beards.
Yes, there’s something quite special about the hair with their casting animations.
Speaking of combat animations that’s another major reason. They just look ‘normal’ with no silly spinning or flips. There’s a little jump into heavy attacks but that gives it nice weight.
Armour fits them pretty well I think which is another plus.
Don’t worry, her hunter is a male with a luscious, thick beard.
