realistically, getting 2k or so on gdruid right now is probably impressive. Getting 2k+ facing other Gdruids only though? no. not really. Look at that ladder? The top guys would be insane and given free everything.
Thanks again for your thoughts. For sure agree that tanks have an awkward time fitting into arena and this game mode might not fully reconcile that.
So:
-tanks won’t fit in, same as ladder and rss
-small space could result in flaming/toxicity, same as ladder and rss
-rewards for top % might not align with the XXXX rating values, same as ladder and rss
Ok, we could only speculate as to the success of it but would you agree with this revision:
“I’m more focused on the win condition: 26 specs having an awesome game mode that alleviates long queue times in rss and is as skill-based as rss”
I also consider that 3s is often difficult for viewers to follow everything that’s going on. Xaryu meets Jelly on their frost mages in a 2s mirror with other r1s? I’d watch that
Kennie you’re in the thread! What do you think- would you queue it? Would you watch top players running it?
Most people would watch any of their favorite streamers que’n. So I’d assume this would be no different. Wouldn’t have to be ranked for this to get views though.
I think 1v1 as a mode has too many spec disparity issues but 1v1 among same specs could work aside from, well, bald spots on the ladder.
Like if you’re playing a niche spec and/or are higher rated and finding matches is hard, like imagine holy priest, bear druid, or there’s only one other rogue at your rating/spec playing.
It’d just suffer from the playerbase being too spread sort of thing more than anything else.
Because a knife fight over who the best 1v1 fire mage, brew, windwalker, sub, etc, is would be fun to me
Same. This is consistent with ladder team play though. I understand it is memed often but rogue/mage in 2v2 is easily one of my all time fave wow pvp things. When it’s mirrored against another rogue/mage- top quality stuff.
Anyone in the bulk of the rss bell curve sitting 20+ min queues would be elated to see this queue pop. Not ideal for the tippy-top or the off-meta, but for everyone else (ie everyone), this would be a major upgrade for a solo arena queue. In the very least, a good complement to rss and blitz.
It’s still arena team play- better positioning, game knowledge, how to support your partner, etc all determine who wins. It just takes away the need for both healers and minimizes the benefit of comms / risk of audible toxicity. I don’t have Greg Street’s phone number, but if I did, I’m pretty sure he would confirm that the two things that have most impeded wow arenas are: the lack of healers and the abundance of toxicity.
I mean also spread by spec as we already have blitz/shuff which are up to 3 ladders per spec before 2s and 3s which is a lot for a single char depending on what you’re playing.
Eh, I don’t know. All these modes with the same rewards and varying difficulties is just not ideal.
5 modes in the rated pvp pane, reasonable enough- let’s toss out that 10v10 and get something in its place that players will actually use.
Considering the whole “majority-tier dps unhappily sitting long rss queues and then not even really enjoying it” thing, a potential solution and good 5th mode.
I’d probably queue up anything they put in there assuming people were actually playing it (4v4fun, og 5s, but I think fewer players required better suits a solo arena queue - more agency etc)
