Anyone else consistently log in wanting to do some mythic plus and end up just sitting there too afraid to even try?
I find myself repeatedly logging in wanting to tank mythic plus but too afraid of blowback. I cannot get myself over it.
I will log in and stare at the grouping tool too nervous to click apply. It’s so stupid too. It’s just a game yet I cannot fathom as to why it stresses me out.
In real life I can easily talk to a crowd of people. Put me in this game, wanting to tank, and blam I cannot summon the courage to apply to groups or start my own.
Please tell me I’m not the only oddball.

You’re not an oddball at all. If you consistently have a bad experience in a given situation, you will learn to be afraid of that situation. Fear is what causes the anxiety… usually fear of failure, fear of not being accepted, or both.
It’s worse in solo queue than in mythic+, but I’ve seen both communities struggle with mental health a little bit if they play too much. A two-week break will probably break the cycle… but if it’s truly pavlovian conditioning (which is what it sounds like) eventually even the idea of logging in will start to make you feel uncomfortable.

Nope! I just chill with my guild and run Delves. I’m good!

There’s days where I’m feeling sluggish and I know I won’t perform as well in PvP, so I avoid it for a time and go do world quests and stuff instead.
It’s more of a ‘state of mind’ thing, rather than outright fear or anxiety lol.
If you power through it though, you’ll eventually become ‘immune’ to such thoughts, because you’re so used to running groups all the time.
I was anxious when I started PvPing, but now not at all.
Losses don’t do anything lol, I’m just like “Oh, better luck next time”.
There’s no reason to be afraid.
Tis a game.
Some of us are real friendly!

I do know what you mean, I won’t tank pug groups, and I have a friend or two who are like that as well. It’s just too stressful. I suggest you tank delves and look for a guild of some people with whom you enjoy dungeoning and don’t mind working with you.
You play the game to have fun, not stress yourself out, so look for the things that are fun.
Worst thing that can happen is that you get some whispers from randos that you wont ever see again
Im still trying to figure out how to turn whispers off
Highly recommend finding a guild. Sendryn’s sanity is testament to how much guildmates stabilize your stress. They stay calm even in the face of many hours of forum exposure!
My guildmates help me stay sane too. It helps a ton.
I don’t think you can… if you find a way let me know. I stopped playing solo shuffle because of the whispers. If I could block them, I’d consider trying to play the bracket again before end of season.
With anything in life, anxiety comes from not being prepared. Just go into it expecting that you will be making mistakes, but the big thing being that you actively look into why the mistake happened and whether or not it was your fault and what you can do differently. Record your runs and watch them back on keys that don’t go well and it will be the biggest tool you can use as a tank to learn.
Most comments you will get from others will be putting blame on you regardless if it’s truly your fault or not, but you need to not get offended or upset by it and determine whether what they are saying is valid or not. Do not dismiss what they are saying because your ego gets in the way and if they are right, implement it in your next run, if they are wrong, forget about it and realize they are low IQ and their opinion doesn’t matter.
A few weeks of doing that, and actively preparing with a mindset of wanting to be a great tank rather than being suppressed by fear, and you will feel prepared enough that the anxiety will go away. It gets to a point as a tank where you go from nervous, to truly feeling like you’re carrying the group you just need to put the work in

For some personality types, that whole process sounds like a nightmare that isn’t worth the effort expended.

I get anxiety thinking about having to finish this god awful leveling.

Well that’s where it comes down to whether you want to do it or not, you aren’t forced to. But if tanking is something you want to do, it’s the role that takes the most knowledge, planning, and is subject to the most criticism on a run to run bases.
If your anxiety is so crippling you can’t take the first steps into setting yourself up for success, a different role is probably a better choice at that point.
You aren’t going to magically jump into m+ as a tank and perform at a high level without failing many times, and learning from it
If you’ve not looked into it, this group is fantastic for getting back in the groove. There are still wait times to put together a group, but the folks I’ve run with over the last couple of years have been great - from low to high keys, too.

It is why I do not do dungeons and raids and pvp. I know I would like the content but the people involved can be a little harsh and because of this, I have decided not to get involved. I do not take it personally however, I do remove that option for others to be the disappointment with such small and little behaviour and actions though simply by not being there. If you are feeling the way you are feeling maybe honor that and simply find something that gives you chill vibes. GL.

Only reason I ever log in lately is to complete the trading post thing… even then the servers freak out and I’ll see the ping for the game sky rocket and DC me like nuts where as my home wifi signal is perfectly fine. Honestly I’m a bit shy to even log in for trading post some days as…why bother… just going to get DCed like crazy because Blizz refuses to optimize servers unless you’ve got an insane build for a PC that it doesn’t matter.
Hilariously… the forums became my outlet for calming down when I went on breaks during my 911 Dispatcher days. Figure that one out.

I don’t do so well in public for more than a few minutes, but I can handle other ppl in an MMO.
Try deselecting this, accessing the below menu by right-clicking on GENERAL and then SETTINGS in the default UI chat pane
I tried this with a btag friend. While I could whisper their character directly, i did not even see the ‘sent’ whisper (since i had Whisper unchecked), nor any return whisper they sent my character - this doesn’t effect BTAG messages, but that’s another issue.

I’m quite the opposite, I guess. I log in but am too lazy to queue up. Just thinking of healing others feels like a chore lol.
