Anxiety and Forced Dungeon Content

The Campaign quest, “An Infusion of Materials,” requires players to enter the Halls of Infusion dungeon. In order to complete the achievement, “Sojourner of Ohn’ahran Plains,” players must complete The Nokhud Offensive dungeon, as two of the achievement’s questlines conclude inside the dungeon.
I have anxiety disorder, and organized group content such as dungeons and raids are not accessible to me. I’ve tried in the past (most recently with Nathria), but participating in this type of content is not worth the anxiety attacks it induces.
Please, stop forcing players like me into dungeons to complete questlines, especially main story quests. I love Dragonflight–everything about it feels so amazing. But the realization that I’ll either miss the rest of the story or have to endure some very painful situations in order to experience it really demotivates me to play.

Eh I’ve struggled with SA quite a bit and I just do normal dungeons for quest objectives. I mean it’s annoying, but it’s not going to be the end of the world. And if it’s really bad, then perhaps a single player RPG would be more suitable cause I’d imagine you’d also struggle with things like LFR and elite quests.

LFR yes. World content no.

Maybe you might feel better once you gear up a little more? I’m 365 on my main and I think that helps with the performance anxiety. Also it helps to remember that in normals people tend to be chill

OP, if you need a chill group to go through it, just let me know. My guildies can take you through. We’re very laid back and if something goes wrong, we don’t care! We laugh, smile, joke about it and keep going. No pressure. But if you need help, just let me know.

Thank you! I might take you up on that.

I hate the Nokhud Offensive. The most disorganized dungeon requiring dragon flying mounts, no real direction other than the terrible map and if a single player crosses over the fence at the last boss before anyone else, it makes it impossible for anyone else to because you get dismounted after a few seconds.

Yes, I know there are ways around it, but that doesn’t change how annoyingly it is designed.

Might i suggest turning chat off? You can actually turn party chat off and also any other chat channel for that matter? I do agree with what someone else posted here, though… If it causes you such bad anxiety attacks, maybe an MMO isn’t for you. As a shy person myself, wow actually helped me open up and be myself. Hope whatever mental health program you are in helps prevent those attacks at some point!

Tbh most people don’t even talk in normals so it’s pretty acceptable to simply turn off party chat.

That way you can pretend you are playing with NPCs, and it mayaswell be true - they will not remember you after the dungeon and you probably will not remember them. The stakes in normal are very very low.

anxiety about a one time and done dungeon with ppl that youll never see again?

that sounds like a deep issue. hope things get better.

i used to feel a lil bit of that and then i said yolo lets do it and it was forever better

There is no anxiety. literally just run behind the tank and cast spells. stop viewing the other players as people and you’ll be fine. unless you are also incapable of running scenarios.

To some people there is.

Sorry to hear you have those issues, im curious though havent the story lines always ended up going through dungeons and raids. Why is it different for you this time around?

As someone else with sever anxiety, the reality is that there are things that just are not accessible in this game if you want to be solo. It’s just the reality of it. If you want the freedom and persistent world of the MMO, it’s just the fact that there is content you’ll be waiting years to complete. I’m currently looking forward to being able to run the raids from BFA soon, but I know Shadowlands raids are at minimum 3 or so years away but the dungeons might be possible in a year. Hopefully BFA will become accessible soon with higher item level.

Even though WoW started off as the first ground breaking MMO to make solo play accessible and brought MMOs mainstream, (versus EQ or even FFXI which were mandatory groups for everything,) WoW is one of the more limiting MMOs for solo friendly content. Other games like ESO and GW2 offer more freedom to avoid it for the story. Or older MMOs like LotRO are really good for story and being able to solo old content once you over level it, which is easy since it goes up to level 130 now, I think. That world is also massive.

I mostly play WoW for battle pets and exploring, and story when I can get it, but if not we always out level it eventually to run later.

no im not also i thought you muted me lol

Please do some research on anxiety disorders before you make such comments, please. Thanks.

Yes, anxiety is all in your head. That doesn’t mean it’s not real, though, and it’s not a helpful thing to say to someone actually suffering with it.

Don’t confuse your inability to do what i said, with my statement being inaccurate

How is your keyboard set up to play? Do you click or do you use both mouse and keys to move, cast, etc… ?

Reason I ask is because I had a similar thing and found that it was because I was a clicker (when I 1st started, 1st year I played) and I’d fall behind, make dumb mistakes, etc… to the point where it wasn’t worth doing and I’d kind of freak out internally about it.

Then I tried pvp and learned a new way of playing. Anyway, if my question doesn’t pertain then no need to answer. Was just curious. Be well.

I agree, OP, dungeons should not be required for this type of achievement. When the majority of the work requires open world content, throwing in a dungeon is definately an issue for those who don’t like groups, especially if they cannot do it with a guild, who cannot always be available for such things. I have a couple of these sitting in my quest log and at some stage I will have to face the idea of doing a dungeon, and just hope it goes well for me.
