Anti-Depressant Reccomendations?

Depression is apparently hereditary on my dad’s side of the family, and because of that my therapist recommended that it’s probably best that I research and pursue getting a prescription for an anti-depressant to help with my motivation and self-image issues.

Anyone have good experiences with some more than others? I really don’t know where to start in researching.

I’m glad you’re taking the proper steps to address it instead of just dealing with symptoms for your whole life.

That said, I feel it’s your therapists job to research and recommend drugs, isn’t it/

I like Diazepam and Weed. I feel awesome all the time. Used to have massive anxiety and depression.

A good therapist can help you out.

My recommendation…talk your primary care physician or a psychiatrist who specializes in mental health disorders.

General Chat in a video game forum is not the best place…

How can I help you my son?

You could just start running or walking every day. It releases dopamine, which in turn makes you happier.

I avoid anti depressants, just because of the long term effects can make someone worse off.

You really need to work out with your doctor which meds are best for you. Be honest with how you’re feeling, and how the meds are affecting you. Just remember the dark times will pass.

That’s not how depression works.

Sure it’s possible to help, but running will never be a long term solution for legitimate depression.

Lexapro works for me, thrown in with some green or a roll/trip now and then but don’t be dumb about it.

Anti depressants didnt work for me. As soon as I came off them, I had the worst feelings of depression and anger. I was prescribed them for nerve pain. If you arent depressed already they are terrible for you, I had to go to hospital for 3 days to get off them, now I am clear headed and feel great again. Best bet is to talk to people when you are sad or angry, get outdoors and enjoy nature. Seems to work for me.

There is a Herbal supplement called Kratom that I use to balance myself out. Depending on your state if it’s legal, I would suggest giving it a try

That’s a psychiatrist. It would be a therapists job to recommend him to a psychiatrist who can get help get the proper meds. Your message is still sound.

I know this is probably going to sound cliche but how is your diet and do you exercise. I can not tell you how mood boosting going for a brisk walk everyday and a couple of homemade green drinks can help you out. When I work out and eat healthy I feel on top of the world.

I tend to get really depressed and down and out at times and this has always done the trick for me. The key is sticking with it of course.

I would definitely look into diet and exercise first. Just my humble opinion.
