So first off I’m loving this game - I haven’t had this much fun since Mass Effect. The game play is excellent , particularly the combat systems and how they interact with the other players. I play a Storm, which is a hovering ranged damage class, but there are also melee and tank classes. The expeditions, which you might think of in WoW terms as being a scenario, are well done and intense at higher levels. The flying mechanic is the best I’ve ever seen in any game of this type. It’s exhilarating to play and I cannot wait to get home and play some more tonight.
Leveling to max level was fun and painless, unlike WoW, and there’s plenty to do at max level. The game story is mature and well-written, entertaining and thought-provoking.
That said, there is room for improvement. There are some bugs, some nasty ones apparently but personally I have only encountered a few minor ones. The UI could do with some refining on the PC because it’s a bit console-ish right now. The in-game store could do with a re-think - it offers too little (6 total items) and only updates every four days, which is too long. The store is just for cosmetics.
And more content is on the way. I think if you look at the nature of the criticism this game received on release and then actually played the game you might come to the conclusion that some sort of biased agenda was at play.
The reviews I saw called this game a disaster, BioWare had lost it’s magic, etc. But I am enjoying the heck out of this game. It needs some work but so what else is new? I highly recommend it. And did I mention the flying is fantastic?
Did you buy it yesterday?
No I bought it on 2/22/2019. I have around 50 hours played at this point.
i cant share your opinion.
Especially since i then played the Division 2 beta and … that game is an actual complete game and far better. FAR better.
Eh, anthem has the gameplay and not the content, and division has the content and not the gameplay. If only we could merge the two :S
I think the combat in Anthem is amazing - the battles are intense - the AI is not too shabby - the Titan fights are often a pain in the neck but you feel like you accomplished something when you’ve won. The Strongholds are pretty unforgiving. I died a lot
And hey I’m not like a pro Destiny player or anything so I’m finding Anthem a great way to learn a new style of gaming. And I’ll repeat the story is a good one, certainly compared to most of the stuff I see lately. And more is on the way.
I hope they offer trial accounts soon, I think once people get past all the negativity they might see something they like.
tell that to PS4 users who having their system effected by the game
(bad enough that sony is actually refunding ppl)
I dont play it.
Destiny 2, division 2, etc. shooter looters are extremely repetitive and take the worst part of RPG’s and toss it in to games like CoD to create a “worst of both worlds” game.
personally I dont buy any game EA has their figners on.
They have killed great game studios and they are too greedy with their “microtransations”.

They’ve also had some BIG issues with loot drops. And for a looter shooter, if loot drops are bad, it kind of ruins the major purpose of playing the game!
I’ve been doing well with loot drops - I’m doing GM1 and aside from dying more than I’d like in Strongholds at that difficulty, I’m having no problem completing expeditions. And although I’m not fond of EA I am fond of BioWare, in particular the Mass Effect series.
I’m just saying I’m having fun playing a game for the first time in a while. And that “while” was mostly spent playing WoW. If you don’t like the genre or the company that’s fine. But for those people that do enjoy BioWare games and that might be interested in a game like this but are scared off by all the negative press - it’s actually quite a good game at it’s core. They do need to fix some bugs and adjust some aspects of their design as I mentioned above.
if anthem fails to meet expectations then you should care. EA doesnt keep dev teams that cant make good enoguh profit.
ask the many great games that wont ever have sequels/spinoffs/etc becasue they did bad and EA axed the entire team.
EA is a death sentence that is just prolonging its fate based on sales.
That’s the thing - Anthem does meet my expectations. I cannot control what other people think of it. I think BioWare has a great core game that needs some work to get properly polished and relatively bug-free. Thought I’d share that.
After six years of development, they should not need polish and time to get rid of bugs.
After six years, they should have more to the end-game than three dungeons.
If, after six years, the utter mess that is Anthem meets your expectations… your expectations are absurdly low.

No, actually my expectations are just fine. And I’m enjoying the game.
Just preloaded my free copy of division 2
Can’t wait until 15th
Anthem is DYING, thank God. Not because fans can’t play it - because the development of that game is crap and they lied to the consumer on its graphics from E3. Doesn’t look anything near what they demo’d to us and players have shown proof of that.
Then there’s the amount of issues and changes they’ve done to screw people.
EA can rot in hell

Well although I still am having fun it does appear some pretty nasty bugs still need to be squashed. It appears you’re better off equipping at least one legendary and unequipping everything else that isn’t and a lot of the stats on gear don’t seem to do anything. And a few more things. I love BioWare but they are making it hard to be a goodwill ambassador for their game lol. Hopefully it will be fixed soon because nothing beats flying around the beautiful world they created and blowing stuff up.
Anthem is horrible. Sorry I lasted 20 minutes. No FPS is half life or marathon and therein lies my problem.
Yes, the list of issues with the game appears to be growing. I’d say right now the leveling was painless, the story is pretty good, the exciting combat with big battles - it’s fun. So if they do have a free trial at some point maybe take a look. Right now I have to say wait on buying.
Okay, so I guess I had to learn the hard way that the Bioware I used to love is no more. Don’t buy this game. Don’t pre-order anything made by Bioware either. That is if the studio survives much longer after this disaster of a game.
I still think the core game play is excellent. The flying is extremely well-done. The lack of any means to socially interact in group play was actually kind of refreshing after years of WoW. The leveling was fun and mostly painless, I didn’t spend a lot of time cringing at the slow creep of my XP bar like I do in WoW. But the loot system, scaling, crafting, endgame content - awful just awful. The worst I’ve seen in years - decades really. And the small hope I had that fixes and content would be coming fast and furious has been shattered.
I was thinking of having this post deleted, but I’d rather my journey from fanboy to disgruntled customer be fully documented for posterity.
I still love the game, the gameplay is the best in the market for this kind of game, but yea, the end game needs work.
But the foundation is there, it’s easily fixable.
