Anthem demo worth DL? Yay or Nay

Yes? No? Does it suck? Is it great?

The demo progress won’t be available in the main release, so I’m just waiting for release date  . You could always just watch a Twitch stream of it too  .

Anthem in this current demo state feels like an alpha. It’s pretty terrible.

I’m playing on a very new PC I built myself that is more than capable of running this game and I’m seeing crap frame rates, tons of crashes, and major game breaking issues.

It has so much potential though. :frowning:

You have to remember, Bioware is EA, and EA is the absolute king of failure. They are also the kings of insanely overpriced and mass DLC. So even if they get this worked out, and you pay $60-$100 (USD) for the game, you’ll probably still have $20-$50 to fork out on launch day for DLC.

Ea is involved. So its already fail.

It crashed on me after I got in the suit so it’s not worth my time now.

Other than LONG load times and sometimes really stupid A.I., it’s fun.

I haven’t had a crash, yet. It’s a good looking game but some of the of the landscape needs a little work.

The gunplay if fun but lots of the MOBs are bullet sponges. 1/3 of a mag of pure headshots for some mid-range baddies to die.

EA/Bioware is playing HEAVILY on ego boosting achievements and bonuses. I did a 30 minute “Free roaming” flight/fight and was rewards with bonus after bonus and about 6 achievements by the time I was done. The 12 year old inside me giggled at all the pretties but old grumpy me was “whatever”.

Been too busy playing a truly good game (RE 2)

I’ll pass

This was a fail for me.

Loading times were slow, even from an SSD.

Then, about 3/4 times, it would failt to load into the world, dropping you back to the title screen.

When i did load into the world (i ignored the story and just wanted to try it out in free-roam/free-flight…)…

Holy crap are the M/KB controls awful. AWFUL. The flying is so spastic. This has all the hallmarks of a terribe console port. (And no, “just plug in a controller” is not a solution - this is the PC version. Make the controls work).

The first Javelin really sucks. Id like to say i tried the others… but i couldnt (well get to that). Its slow, but doesnt have the advantage of the tank Javelin of being like… you know… tanky. The abilities (grenade and missile) are boring.

The guns have no heft or weight. They dont “feel” substantial. The sounds are terrible. They are also weak AF. And you carry absurdly small amounts of ammo.

The enemies, even the small ones, are bullet sponges. Rare/boss/elite enemies are bullet oceans. You can run yourself out of ammo and do about 1/20th of their bar. Several times i was reduced to waiting on my grenade and missile cooldowns as my only way to attack (because Ammo drops are somehow absurdly scarce, and nowhere to be found during a lot of elite encounters as there are no reliable adds).

And while the enemiesa are bullet sponges… you are not. Even a few low level enemies can close you out in 3-4 shots. Some of the elite enemies would blow my shield and reduce me to 1/4 or less health in one shot. Sometimes with a “and you’re going to die” status ailment attached.

Worse… you only get your exp added to your character when you leave the current mission (and freeroaming is a “mission”). If, for any reason, you fail to load back into town…

Your progress is totally lost.

Im not even talking about crashes of the app (it never crashed for me), just… id go to leave the field, and return to town.

It takes you to a “here’s what you earned” screen. You can skip all that, or skip each individual category… ANd then you load back into town!

… maybe. And if you dont? None of that stuff you just earned sticks. … id say six out of the seven times i tried to load back into town, itd lose connection to the server… and POOF. Gone.

I never actualy managed to gain a single level. And therefore i could never get the other Javelins to try out ( you have to get to level 12, you start at 10). Because i never actually gained much experience.

And the menu system… holy crap. Cant see your inventory in town (you have to log into the Javelin Forge… which has a 20-30 second LOADING SCREEN), cant see your exp, nothing.

When in the field, any useful info is 3-4 sub menus deep.

Cant put down waypoints on the map. No quick travel (this is…meh, take it or leave it, not a huge deal, but when added to everything else…)…

The available world comes in one of two flavors - the really pretty jungle/river areas and the rest of the world which is stone-brown and ugly. ENemies are low-detail and blend in far too easily - like, you often cant find targets even though they are standing out in the open, its all so muddy and bland.

The jungle areas are pretty.

The map itself seems… small. Like, not just the available area in the demo… as you can see the other areas you cant get to on the map (just by a “turn back or get ported back” warning - in the full game youll just traverse there like normal) - the demo is 1/3 of the map and you can explore the whole thing in a few minutes.

And their equivalent of Destiny’s Lost Sectors… have loading screens. Its pretty awful.

A lot of people probably expected a lot of comparisons to Destiny… but i cant really say that there is much to compare. The 3rd person aspect and the sluggish movement and terrible ADS and gunplay make it quite obvious that they aren’t that much alike.

The flying is just not fun on the M/KB… and i dont give an Eff how good it might be on a controller. Chat is terrible too.

Its… really bad. Really, really, really bad.

I deleted the demo after about 6 hours of trying to level to 12 so i could try the other Javelins, hoping they felt better.

But… nope.

Done. Not worth.

I found it fun to play but since there is no idea how they are going to monetize it via cash shop…i would say to hold on

Fun game, surprised me because the controls during beta were horrible, and they’re still improving them into release.

That said, will only be one month a premiere sub for me, not a buy, division 2 comes out a month later, nice gap closer though.

I’ve already got my new game release schedule for spring set thanks to AMD.

Doing RE2 and then division 2 and DMC5

Game is awesome…was up last night killing some massive spider with waves of adds. It was on the hard difficulty and took about 20 minutes for a very well coordinated group of us on Discord. Playing at the highest difficulty level where mob health and damage is +3100% is going to be INSANE.

I am not only buying 2 copies for my daughter and I but am replacing her videocard with probably an RTX 2060 for a better experience.

Only problem I have with it, is I hope the servers are better come launch.

I haven’t been able to finish the stronghold because it crashes out every time on the spider…thing.

Ok. Sounds like the majority of you guys think the game blows. Majority rules. Not gonna bother with what sounds like a heap of smelly crap that is this game.

Wait for the reviews and make up your own mind.
Or grab origin basic for a buck and get 10 hrs of trial playtime when it releases and see for yourself.

needless to say, don’t trust us.

cosmetics only per Bioware.

Flying on pc is excellent with the Interceptor and very fluid at about 35% flight sensitivity. The gunplay feels good as well, I rarely ran out of ammo as I like to pop in and melee a bit. If you die often then you haven’t applied your shield and healths boosts which drop often. I had no issues hitting max beta level from 10-15 in a day of play and had no connection issues except once when starting a free play on one occasion.

Just watched a video from Digital Foundry about how horrendously optimized the game is.

RX 580/1060 can’t even hold 60fps at 1080p, but the game still looks like trash
