Answered: Hailstorm Macro help please

Is there a way to macro Hailstorm to show stacks on your Actionbar? What I am looking for is a way to add this to an actionbar using the custom UI that would be larger than the others so that I could track it easier (I am well aware that weakauras exist). It is just so small in the corner of my screen that I cannot see it. I am trying the following macro and it doesn’t seem to work :frowning:
Tried 1: #showtooltip Hailstorm
Tried 2: #show Hailstorm
Tried 3: #showtooltip Hailstorm (talent)
Tried 4: #showtooltip Spell=334195

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

This is kind of an odd request. If you really wanted this you are best off with a weakaura which should be pretty straightforward from the templates, but in practice you should always use frost shock after a MSW spender regardless of how many stacks you have, be it 5 or 10 (it gets replaced with a lower count if you have overflowing maelstrom and used a second lightning bolt at fewer stacks than the first). While it does technically build up to a max of 5 with multiple uses of lightning bolt, you shouldn’t be casting that at fewer than 5 MSW.

Though it does beg the question if hailstorm should be allowed to stack to 10 with multiple casts when using overflowing maelstrom, it would probably lead to the exact issue you seem to have, micromanaging the buff for use at 10 stacks every time instead of immediately after a spender.

If you just wanted a macro to simplify this sequence I suppose you could use something like:
/castsequence reset=2 lightning bolt, frost shock

thank you for the response. Shaman is not my first (or second, or third) class to choose to play. However, with the pre-patch mixing things up, I decided to mess around with a few classes that take me out of my comfort zone. I do understand the juggling that the ability lends itself to. As it is now, I am just rotating through my abilities and hitting Frost Shock when 1) everything else is on CD, or 2) Ice Strike is up. This might just be the way to play it. I guess more tinkering is needed.

That’s a pretty reasonable priority; as long as you are not using multiple MSW spenders between shocks while it is off cooldown, there is no waste.

With the caveat that you should be getting an Ice Strike in there before the Hailstorm as well. (Assuming it’s not on cooldown in high MSW generation scenarios, obviously.)
