Another terrible choice by the SoD devs

I logged on the other day to find that despite not being mentioned in the pre-patch patch notes, Warlocks’ Mark of Chaos rune has been moved to the boot slot (this is NOT the terrible choice I’m talking about by the way). So as a result I realized I had to get a new boot rune, and after a quick look I see that I need to go get the Demonic Knowledge boot rune, which you need to kill all the dark riders for from P2. What a pain! I’ve already done this on multiple other characters, now I have to do it again!? UGH

Then I remember another change I saw, where if you’ve done this quest on another character you can buy an item to transfer to your other character and give them their rune from that quest so you don’t have to do it again. So I’m like “Oh sick, thanks SoD devs that’s really helpful” and I bring my lvl 47 Warr who did the questline back at lvl 40 over to Booty Bay to buy the item.

Here’s the kicker. I get there and the item costs 5 Tarnished Undermine Real. :exploding_head: You can only get Tarnished Undermine Reals by killing lvl 55 bosses. :exploding_head:

So even though I’ve done this brutally annoying quest on TWO other characters, I CANNOT avoid doing it again for my lvl 60 character because both of the characters I’ve done it on are too low (the other is lvl 48) too acquire the currency I’d need to buy the item that allows me to skip it.

What the hell? Why would you put this time-saving convenience behind a barrier to entry that involves having to do endgame content?!?!?! It will 100% take more time to get to the mid 50s and do 5 bosses worth of dungeon content than it will to just go do the freaking quest!! You SoD devs are so unfathomably incompetent, why on earth would you do this?

RIP my afternoon now I gotta go do the stupid dark rider questline a THIRD time :face_vomiting:

you know i have sympathy for you but you gotta realize.

the people in your exact situation that diddnt go on and level to a point that they could get the reals easily are very very small in number.

making people actually play the game at least even a little bit for rewards isnt the worst idea ever ya know?

Ok I will admit I wrote the OP in the height of frustration about this and maybe it’s probably not a super common problem BUT my guy, 2 things, and I’m glad you mentioned them actually because this is exactly my point.

I’ve “actually played the game at least even a little bit” enough to level 2 characters to lvl 60 and two characters to the high 40s. On top of that I “actually played the game at least even a little bit” enough to get both those characters in the high 40s through all their rune quests up to that point, including the Dark Rider questline. Shouldn’t that be enough “actually playing the game at least even a little bit” to get access to the convenience that was added this phase PURELY to save players like me time? Like, this was added for EXACTLY this purpose, to help people who’ve done this quest not have to do it again.

Apparently I’m only worthy of saving this time if I’ve played SPECIFICALLY the characters I’ve done the Dark Rider quest on SPECIFICALLY through endgame dungeons. Otherwise the devs think I should have to do the questline yet another time. :exploding_head:

Second of all, what is the benefit of locking this convenience behind 5 endgame bosses?? If there was a good reason I could at least understand the thinking. I respect that the devs don’t just want to hand out this rune to anyone who levels to 40, sure, lets make sure players have to engage with the content at least once. I have no issue with that. The idiocy of locking it behind 5 reals is that it has NOTHING to do with having done the Dark Rider quest already. It’s completely unrelated.

The point of adding this convenience was to help people set up their alts, it’s very frustrating (and pointless btw) to lock players whose alts became their main later on out of this convenience.

By the way you’ll have the same problem if you came back to the game after taking a break and aren’t in the 50s yet. Even though you may have done the Dark Rider quest on 3 lvl 40 chars already, if you want to level another you’ll have to do it all again because your chars who have completed it can’t do endgame dungeons yet.

Please change it to a gold cost and remove this illogical real requirement.

the real item is bind on account. turn in 5 reals on main and mail to alts

Bad troll or bad reader, either way go next

Alright, I’m all for convenience, but Pemmin is right. The item is intended to be bought with your main that you’ve done those runes on and mailed to an alt to allow you to skip it on that alt.

Is it inconvenient that it uses reals instead of gold? Sure. But getting 15 reals if you wanna buy all 3 tokens takes like 2 dungeon runs. Getting the 5 reals for 1 takes one dungeon run. Less than an hour. It’s still much, much better than having to do those quest chains again.

The developers are disconnected from the actual gameplay experience, leading to decisions that don’t align with what players find enjoyable or effective.

They often overlook valuable feedback from the community, so it’s not surprising that they’ve made another questionable choice.

You guys you gotta read the post, this isn’t the problem.

The problem is that I cannot do the dungeon runs to get the reals on the characters that have done the Dark Rider quest because they are not high enough level. The character that did the Dark Rider quest WAS my main three phases ago, but now a different character that I leveled to 60 is my main, and as a result, I cannot get credit for having done the Dark Rider questline already.

If the convenience is about not having to do the quest again, then make the barrier to entry for this convenience finishing the quest, not finishing the quest and also leveling to at least the mid 50s and also doing a dungeon run or two.

It is in fact NOT less than an hour of work if you include having to level up to endgame levels and THEN do the dungeons.

I did the whole Dark Rider quest again today, took about 2 hours in total while I did other stuff on the side. Leveling my lvl 47 char who did it already to the mid 50s and then killing 5 bosses would have taken me MUCH longer than that, and most importantly has NOTHING to do with having done the quest already, which was supposed to be the factor that mattered.

Exactly, and unfortunately that’s as far as the devs were able to think as well, nobody considered that in SoD, a gamemode that encourages and rewards leveling alts, you might have a character who has done the Dark Rider questline but NOT leveled to endgame yet, due to the player leveling other characters, and thus my and likely other players’ predicament.

I see your point now. Yes, that is rather inconvenient if you haven’t done the quests on a character you got to 55+.
