Another RWF mythic guilds calling it quits for raiding

There was another guild that threw in the towel the other month too. This is actually worrisome. Decade old raiding guilds are getting tired of playing WoW, which tells you the future of WoW is heading.

Most of them will probably get picked up by other guilds.

Guild stops raiding in waning weeks of season, news at 11.

Also, water is wet.

Is there some inferred assumption that guilds/players will play WoW, especially at a high level, forever?

Playing the same game for a decade+ I’d say is very abnormal for video game players.

The cycle of life is cruel.
Another will rise to take its place.
It being decade old means probably that it was time for management to get out.

Just reading real quick they say first:
“Decline in leadership, both in quality and quantity. This has mostly been a recent problem”

Raiding is back to dying. It’s too much of an investment for race teams and I don’t think any regular person wants to spend a combined idk 800+ pulls on the last 3 bosses of raid after spending like 150 on the first 6.

The devs said they gave up on the arms race with liquid and echo and blatantly lied to everyone.

Oh noes! 0.01% of the playerbase is starting to call it quits! What ever shall we do?!!!? :scream:

To a degree yes. But, you could also say that a 10 year old guild with limited sponsorship, could not compete with the top 3 guilds any more. The time and resource investment had become too great. And the guild could not maintain a consistent roster, due to not being able to offer the stability and financial compensation of the top 3.

The level that Echo, Liquid and Method play at, and the amount of resources they have at their disposal, make it ever increasingly difficult to raid against them. And to be honest the pool of WoW players willing and able to play at that level is not growing exponentially. So the best players are going to do whats best for them. Take the job with the higher chance of professional success, and the better monetary package for you.

I wonder if ppl play the game for different reasons that’s crazy man

Not many pro-anything’s that stay in a competitive scene for 10 years. That’s a long time.

Especially if you’re looking for sponsors. It’s not like esports is making millions a year selling jerseys to keep them interested long term.

Leadership and schedule demand. It’s not easy playing anything competitively. I think some of the early overwatch teams were doing 10-12 hour training sessions 5 days a week? That’s nutty.

Read the article, specifically the reasons given by the Guild Lead for the disband: “retirement/burnout” was one of like 5 reasons given why this is happening. Seems like you cherry picked a bit.

For guilds that are not in the top few places, it is not surprising to see them quit. I assume guilds that are just below the top few places quit all the time.

The reason I say that is because those guilds have to deal with all the competitive pressure and spend hours trying to improve their ranking in the WF race. But, they are not good enough to easily get big sponsorships to justify their time and energy.

In such a case, it is inevitable that they get burnt out and quit. It is actually impressive that BDG managed to keep it up for 10 years.

If only there was a post for every guild that started raiding Mythic, then this confirmation bias narrative of “Mythic raiding is dying” would possibly die.

It’s their choice
They get paid to do it

BDG lost GG as a sponsor and much like sports today, money talks, people walk. Echo/Liquid and Method will always have the means and money to recruit the best players at the expense of guilds like BDG

And it probably doesn’t help that they’ve never won an RWF. They were #15 in the last race. Although they did pretty good in the previous 2 tiers coming in #4 both times.

I mean, they lost sponsorship. Would you keep doing a job you weren’t getting paid for?

Most music bands and youtube gaming groups don’t last this long. Good on them for wanting to do something different.

no, no it really doesn’t lmao
