I donno what an archon is in the context of WoW, but in Greek they were rulers, and in Gnosticism they’re lesser gods who help the creator of the universe govern… everything. They were usually tied to a certain element.
Given that, in WoW, light is the power of creation / life, and shadow is the power of destruction / hunger, what if the archon tree played on its Gnostic roots a bit?
So we would get a new kind of “word” ability, these being “Heavenly Word: Creation” and “Profane Word: Destruction” (holy and shadow respectively), leveraging the meaning of the word archon and the lore of light and shadow.
Since other hero specs have both specs use the same ability, we’ll do it like this:
- Speak a primordial word, commanding the heavens to tear open, bathing the area in pure light / shadow (just recolor the thing shiny light or purple void color). Enemies in the area will take damage, allies in the area will be healed for the duration.
- While the rift is open, you are empowered, gaining Apotheosis / Dark Ascension for the duration, and gaining Celestial Command, allowing you to target an area to explode in holy / shadow damage, and healing allies in the area. Limited to maybe 2 uses per rift (can transform the rift button into the button for this ability, to save keybinds).
- If holy, this explosion will have increased healing, and will apply renew and/or prayer of mending to targets in the area, at reduced duration / stacks.
- If shadow, this explosion will have increased damage, and will apply 3 seconds of devouring plague to enemies hit.
Then instead of modifying halo, you would take those talents and make them interact with the rifts / the explosion.
I donno, I’m no game designer, but I feel like with the name “archon” you should be more god-like, not just spontaneous halo explosions.
