So I’m thinking about upgrading my graphics card. I’m currently running the following…
AMD Ryzen 5 3600x 6 core 3.8ghz
16gb ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4gb
Is it worth upgrading for Shadowlands? Ideally I’d like to run the game with ultra graphics. I’ve got about a $400 budget for a new card. Just wondering if anything I could buy at that price would be much of an improvement.
Thanks in advance for responses!
What’s your display?
Right now, a $400 GPU is about 2-2.25x more powerful than the 970, and will pair well with your CPU, so long as your display can display it.

Help me out here. Are you talking about what resolution?
I’m running at 1920x1080. If I set the graphics to high I can usually run around 55-60 fps. If I set it to Ultra I dip down around 40fps.
This card had me running around 100fps when WoD came out. And that was on Ultra. I’m trying to get back into that range.
For only $338 you could get your self an RTX 2060, which is ~ 75% better than the GTX 970.

It will help determine what you spend your money on.
If your display is only 1080p and 60hz, you won’t get the most out of a much faster GPU.
If all you want is a 1080p/60 experience, then you can spend closer to $220 for something like a 1660 Super.
If you had a 1440p display, a 5600xt/5700xt will be better buys than anything from Nvidia.

if you’re feeling adventurous you can camp out EVGA’s site for their midweek sales. Sometimes B-stock 1080ti drops for under $300. Comes with a 1year warranty from EVGA as well.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Now I’m starting to think i need to upgrade my monitor first. The max resolution I can run is 1080p. Sounds like upgrading the graphics card isn’t going to be much of an improvement without a new monitor.

Your card is definitely not bad if you want to keep using it for a while.

If you can wait till next month, RTX 3060 Ti might pop up.
Also, WoW loves speedy CPUs instead of more cores. Ryzen 5 5600X will give you a big performance boost.
