I really wanted frost to be decent for high end keys but looks like fire is again #1.
Just don’t make my mistake and build your single target and AoE frost legendaries only to find out it’s bad. Time to look into arcane.
Just wait for powercreep™
yeah blizz in this exp cant slack on class balance , covenants , legendaries are choose based on specs
I got some bad news for you… At 95th percentile it’s mid-pack, but as soon as you drop to 90th you’re getting closer to the bottom. Unless you can orange-parse every fight you’re better off rolling something else at this stage.
It’s week 1 of raiding…
Y’all a different breed.
It will get better. I’ve never seen an expansion where all mage specs were mid tier or below on any content.
I feel confident that they’ll be buffing one of the specs pretty soon.
That’s unfortunate to hear. In nyloatha I usually parsed 95-98, sometimes 100 as frost for my item level. Granted corruption and all that played in deep. Back in mop I peaked at 88th mage in the world on the horridon (big Dino, second boss of tot). It’s older and outdated now and I’m not the best mage in the world and far from it, however I like to believe I’m not a bad player.
That news does make me consider rerolling to something such as Spriest though.
For real, there’s been no tuning yet. I’ve already fully committed to Frost with Slick Ice and Glacial Fragments and I’m not worried at all. There’s absolutely going to be changes considering there’s insane outliers like UH DK running around.
They somewhat got ‘lucky’ with the unintended results for Fire in BfA. By design, no Mage spec would have been top half damage.
I really hope that’s the case. Blizzard has been known in the past to look at actual data and tune the specs at the start of raid. That said, they’ve also been known to tell us we’re bads playing the spec wrong or that buffing Mages would mess with Mythic progression guilds… We’ll see, but I hope you’re right. I still enjoy Mage but I don’t have the energy to put in twice the effort for half the result like I did in BfA.
the new winter bite mechanics screwed the core of the spec over for cleaving, it wont treat the second target as frozen unless its hit by FoF. not to mention the nerf on cleave dmg from 80% to 65%. i know the glacial lego is doing good in mythic +. but Frosts strongest point was a 2-3 target spec.
Frost is basically arcane now. 1 Target spec and reliant of procs instead of mana.
Which is worse because single target frost is heavily reliant on rng. That means regardless if youre good at the class or not, youre in the mercy of luck.
Maybe they are happy with fire always being the best for mage. I just wish they would be transparent. Even if I wouldn’t have crafted a legendary yet I have wasted a lot of my time leveling the wrong covenant if I want to switch to fire.
There was so much false information going around and wrong predictions. Would any of you knowingly put time into a bottom 4 dps spec? I know I wouldn’t.
I will say though in my personal experience it hasn’t been terrible. Except when I have to cast like 10 frostbolts in a row to get any kind of proc.
I don’t understand this philosophy at all.
Agreed. If I had known frost was going to be at the bottom of the list I would have gone fire or arcane. Personally I don’t want to switch specs or covenants just yet. I am hoping for a frost buff, though part of the issue also seems to be that a lot of our gear right now makes tuning secondary stats difficult. Hitting crit cap would make frost more viable, though getting there in the next week or two seems unlikely.
Does no one actually play class they enjoy? Is frost vs fire keeping some of y’all from some #1 dps spot NA or something?
Every frost mage I have run into I have felt has at least pulled their weight. The expansion has been out like 2 weeks and y’all act like you do 3 dps and your guild friends are threatening to kill your family.
Please sir, they said they won’t let me see my kids.
You are contemplating what people write wrong.
It isn’t terrible but just knowing you could probably contribute more if you changed spec weighs on the mind.
But guess what? specs are tied down to these covenants and legendaries where you can’t just change specs to ease your mind. Nono lets make it a time consuming process!
You want to do all you can to help your guild and friends succeed. But guess what if you’re playing frost you aren’t.
Forget what they expect of me it’s what I expect of myself.
A concerned Mage: “Our spec is underperforming, please Blizzard could you give it some love”
A dude who has nothing better to do: “omg why do you care how much damage you do, it’s not like you’re the top 1% of the top 1% of world first raider elites, it doesn’t matter to you, I know because I speak for all Mages”
I’m frost and I think it’s fine.
I parsed well in my guilds 6/10 run.
Hopefully frost gets buffs before the mythic race starts.
There’s always been a perception that frost starts out strongly and that fire is weak at the beginning of every expansion, until fire finally overtakes it due to scaling. I hope that this can help put that myth to bed.
