Tuesday maintenance has been a thing for 19 years.
90% of the time it’s just rolling restarts.
Truth is if they bought the latest in server tech they would never actually have to turn it off for more than 60 seconds it’s 2023 not 2006 lol

Latest in server tech isn’t going to change 20+ year old code, the game is written around needing maintenance.
Look at GW2 for a game that was designed around no downtime.

First of all it’s DDoS. Direct Denial OF Service. The o is important. Second of all bnet says it’s down for maintenance.

You think they take them down for fun? They would much rather have them up 24/7, people don’t buy things when the servers are down.
Even GW2 does need maintenance, but they run a patented server system that fires up new servers dynamically that you can move to by just logging out and back in.

we have had 41.16 days of maintenance give or take a few hours.

The funny thing is, that kinda used to be what happened on Tuesdays. There’d be an hour or so allotted for maintenance, but it would usually only be a few minutes or so because they’d just be restarts. That was years ago though, guess they’ve cut back either on infrastructure or personnel (or both) and now they just have to keep the game fully offline for the duration and can’t just do simple restarts anymore.
