This guild attack narrative really doesn’t make any sense.
First, why would you burn a bot net on a game for no financial gain?
Second, if you were targeting an individual guild, you would need to DDoS their individual IP’s, not the whole network which takes everyone out equally.

Cheetahs always target the weakest antelopes. Large MMO games are very good targets because these servers themselves need to consume full throughput, and registering a Battle.net account is almost free. Increasing the difficulty of registration will reduce the number of players, and increasing server defense is also a huge expense. Paying terrorists will bring another group of terrorists. I guess they should buy temporary services to enhance server defense, but this is only temporary. In fact, being able to do such a DDoS also has a price, and there are not many enemies who can pay for it.
You would think after 20+ years of operating… they would have very good defenses already put up that could help alleviate these types of attacks quickly. Or why these attacks are still so effective after all this time is beyond me, especially with the knowledge of these “Bot nets” existing… but nothing is done?

I think we should start sending out mini-suspension for so many spam threads of the same type.
Then it wouldn’t matter if DDoS came through or not because we wouldn’t have the initial traffic to start with

It doesn’t work that way. Blizzard can fix one chink in the armor, and the hackers will find another. It’s an arms race. It’ll always be an arms race. One will fix their stuff, then the other fouls it up for them. Back and forth ad nauseam.

If Google can’t fight adblockers, what makes you think blizzard can fight against a bot net that finds different ways to attack the system or just overload the login system. It doesn’t take much to get a bot net to get accounts and just all hammer the servers at the same time to slow the traffic down.
How do you fight against an actual bot net? You really can’t.
