Hello everyone, want to get people’s thoughts, and hopefully get the attention of devs regarding what I see as a chronic problem since around Cata, but really blowing up later on.
Ridiculous numbers.
Power growth happens, it’s required to happen, and it feels good when it happens. But the problem I have is that it doesn’t get reset back down to basics with each expansion. What I’d really like to see happen is a consistent pattern implemented that keeps numbers at a manageable amount every expansion, and helps to combat bloat.
As examples:
Tier/Season 1 of an expansion: Tank health sits at around 10k, DPS sits at around 2k DPS.
Tier/Season 2: Tank Health climbs to 12k, DPS climbs to 2500 (~25% increase)
T3/S3 onwards: ~25% increases, preferably off of the baseline of T1, but however it’s implemented is fine.
When a new expansion comes out, stats are crunched back down to be in line with the 10k Health, 2k DPS line again.
I’ll be honest, there’s something that just feels bad about doing ridiculously large amounts of damage, tens and hundreds of thousands per second.
That being said, I know it’s difficult to crunch all of these items every single expansion, and I get it. But there’s got to be some system that can be implemented to just have numbers feel normal again. Power gain is awesome, truly it is, but to such an extreme just feels really bad.
That’s good to hear, wish it was coming sooner. There was something really nice in TBC when you could really see your improvement after just a single piece of gear change or improving your rotation with a 50, or even 100 dps increase. It was way easier to track instead of “Hmm, did I do 3k more dps because of the fight mechanics, or did I actually improve?”
I know it’s kinda cool to do really big hits and all that, but we’re already back to having over 1mil health on people again.
This is exactly the opposite of what the people are saying when they complain about “borrowed power”. They want the increased powers and abilities to stay.
In either case it doesn’t matter. They could go either way, increasing our power or cutting it back, then in the next patch or expansion they will just adjust the bosses and mobs to be set at what ever level power we have.
No, god no, idk how long you have been playing but as someone who has been playing since the start of wow, you dont want another crunch.
Everytime blizzard does a crunch they screw everything up, and it takes them forever to balance and fix thing especially old content, in general blizzard sucks with scaling things, its been my number 1 complaint about the game actually is the ilvl scaling for example.
Lest we forget that people found out you could kill things substantially faster back in BFA if you did not have your heart of azeroth equipped.
Either way, no, crunchs should not happen, the entire point of playing an MMO and an RPG is that you should be progressing your character, as you level, and as you grow stronger, you should feel like your character is getting stronger. Any time they do a crunch, or they implement stupid systems like mob level scaling or mob ilvl scaling, you don’t feel like you get stronger anymore, you just feel less crappy as you progress.
I’ve been playing since vanilla, I agree that you want to feel stronger, but having millions of health and doing millions of damage just feels stupid. It feels less manageable, and off.
I think the power creep goes too exponentially from expansion to expansion, and has gotten significantly worse since the big crunch. And, we already know it isn’t sustainable for the power growth to continue without a crunch because they’ve already had to do a crunch. Wouldn’t it be better, and easier, to maintain numbers every expansion, with a roughly preset idea of how far up it’s going to go? Easier to benchmark how you’re doing, what you need to improve, and definitely easier to tune underpowered classes/specs.
This is what bugs me about squishes, if I’m doing an old raid weekly for a mount or some mog, i should still be able to do it after a squish, i don’t want to hear any BS about having to level up or gear up again just to do something that i could already do previously.
In my opinion, legacy buffs should be implemented for all old raids/dungeons as soon as any given expansion is over, that way it’ll never be an issue again.
Well because of number crunching that’s not possible in some situations because again, blizzard cant do it right.
There is nothing wrong with seeing bigger and bigger numbers, Half the point of RPGs and MMO is playing the content to see bigger numbers.
The entire reason you raid and do M+ is to see bigger numbers, so that you can do more numbers to get better geat that have more numbers so you can do more numbers in damage.
Increaseing your power is a core mechanic of wow and RPGs/MMOs cutting that back is going backwards.
