I’m fairly disappointed by the Anniversary Event even though I was genuinely excited to get stuck into it when I first saw the announcement. Not going to talk in-depth about weird balance changes or bugs. Just the event. Although on the topic, please stop restricting yourself to this 8-week content cycle if it’s going to continue to damage the quality of the game. The amount of bugs and issues this expansion has had is getting to be quite frustrating.
The Bad
Drip-Feeding Event Currency
Why exactly was this thought necessary? I don’t quite understand why I’m made to wait multiple weeks before I’m given the ability to grind out the celebration tokens as I see fit. In doing so this also compels people to do content that they don’t really want to do. For me, that’s some of the current expansion weekly quests, for others it’s PvP in Korrak’s Revenge. I kind of understand that maybe the goal was to get people to dabble in a little bit of everything, but it just makes me apathetic and results in me not having anything anniversary-related to do for the next 6 days until the weekly reset rolls around and I get to do my weeklies again.
What exactly would be the harm in just letting me bash out the anniversary world bosses, doing BRD on all three difficulties and on alts, letting me queue for Codex of Chromie multiple times or even getting Celebration Tokens for taking part in the little mini-events like Mount Mania or Fashion Frenzy? I don’t understand why you felt the need to timegate the ability to grind these out.
I want to play your game. Let me grind it out.
Codex of Chromie
The queue time on this is horrendous and it’s almost certainly because of the role requirements, right? Why exactly does it ‘require’ three tanks and five healers? On my main I could probably almost solo the event, nothing had any substantial health and upon checking a recording I made, nobody took barely any damage? Was this meant to be something greater, was more supposed to be going on that warranted three tanks and five healers? I spent 6x longer in queue than I did actually doing the event, and it wasn’t exactly a thrilling piece of content either.
Please make this role-agnostic.
The Good
Mount Mania and Lorewalker Cho’s storytime is pretty fun, seeing people react in /say and generally have a good ‘MMO Experience’ was enjoyable. Would be nice if you could enable Elixir of Tongues by default though, I got a ‘read only’ experience as I’m on a 95% Horde realm as an Alliance player.
World Bosses are an enjoyable-enough nostalgia trip. Unless I’m missing something it would be nice to see the loot tables in the adventure journal somewhere though, maybe under Classic Raid → World or something?
Edit: The idea of) Blackrock Depths. Although why is this on the Flexible-Raids timewalking queue system?
All in all, the anniversary event had a lot of potential, but for me it’s really let down by this weird ‘earn 100 to actually start earning’ achievement and the disappointment of the Codex of Chromie scenario. These are both somewhat solveable. Remove the requirement for the 100 Bronze achievement to be earned before they start to be grindable, and make Chromie’s Codex role-agnostic to at least make it a quicker queue. Thanks!
