Anima feels like a step backwards from Azerite

So, when we first got our Artifact’s in Legion we would get consumable items in our inventory that we would then use to add artifact power to our Artifacts. In BFA, when we got Azerite, one of the nicer changes was that acquiring Azerite just automatically added it to our Necks.

Now, in Shadowlands, we have basically gone back to Legion’s style of receiving Anima through items in our inventory that we then need to take to our Covenant Halls and deposit.

My complaint, and I acknowledge that its a very minor one, is NOT that we have to take it back to our covenant hall. I enjoy that aspect of bringing a supply of Anima back to our covenants, I think its flavorful. My personal gripe is that we have gone back to it being inventory items.

Why the Anima, before being deposited, just be a currency or a singular item that stacks instead of individual tokens of differing values? In my inventory now (And I will have more soon) I have 3 tokens of 35 value each, 1 token of 5 value, and then 3 tokens of 3 value each. Why couldn’t it just be a single item named “Collected Anima” and instead I just have 119 of that item? Maybe it stacks to 200 or more instead of multiple different small portions taking up more inventory space? Or, better yet, why couldn’t it be a currency in the currency tab?

I know this post may come off as very nitpicky but I genuinely feel its a step backwards compared to Azerite Power.

I know it’s been a few years since Artifact Power but one of the things heavily praised about BFA when it launched was that unlike Azerite Power it did not take up inventory space like Artifact Power did.

Why did we go backwards in this regard?

Just sell some stuff and you won’t have this problem.

Not really the point I was raising, I am personally in no risk of running out of bag space. I have 86 empty slots, that is not the problem.

I bring this up because it’s a bit clunky and a weird step backwards especially when that was one of the biggest praises of going from Artifact Power to Azerite.

The question is “Why?”, why make this step backwards to a system of multiple differing tokens of small, differing, values taking up multiple bag slots as opposed to using a currency or a singular item that stacks.

Azerite being automatically consumed made sense because the Heart of Azeroth was something you had on your person.

It would have also made sense for Artifact power items to be automatically consumed for similar reasons.

Anima isn’t something you’re feeding into yourself. It’s something you’re feeding into the world to breathe life back into it.

Are you guys even reading my post or just skimming it? Where did I say it should automatically be consumed? In fact, I blatantly said I like that it’s not auto consumed and that you need to deposit it–

The entire point of this thread was how the Anima is contained before depositing it.

Almost certainly they’re ignoring that. I also read the whole thing to make sure I understood the problem - since I’m only 54 - and I fully agree with the complaint.

Thank you, I appreciate you at least reading it through.

If people disagree, that is one thing and I can understand that. I already mentioned it’s a very nitpicky complaint. But making a response that clearly shows that the post itself was not read or only lightly skimmed is just frustrating.

I don’t get why people would disagree, though. These are items you need to travel to a certain place to consume, and you generally have a lot - and they’re not stacking.

Well its a good thing I spent the last two weeks farming those 2 extra bag slots =/

Personally, the only reason I can think of is that the different tokens add flavor as different sources to pull from. Personally though, it just seems unnecessary.

Indeed. A good example, I just did two world quests in Maldraxxus that both reward Anima. One that gave 105 Anima in 3x 35 value Anima tokens and one that gave 70 Anima in 2x 35 value Anima Tokens. All 5 tokens all have an Anima value of 35 each, problem is that 2 of them are [Engorged Monstrosity’s Heart] and 3 of them are [Juvenile Sporespindle] So while they are tokens of the same exact value their are entirely different tokens and thus take up entirely different bag slots.

Not to mention I can not imagine the time and resources put into making all these different items just to represent the same values of Anima each.

It just, to me, seems a bit excessive and unnecessary as well as being a step back, in my view.

Haha, indeed XD

Considering that they need to be brought back to your covenant hall to be deposited it just feels like a less practical way to handle it by having them all be differing tokens instead of a singular item that stacks or a currency.

It’s only day 2 of Shadowlands and it’s admittedly a bit nitpicky, but it just seems unnecessary. I am curious to see how things go as the expansion moves forward.

Agree 100%…there is no reason for it to be physical items taking up space in your inventory. Not all of us got a bag from bag boy.

It should definitely be a currency that is stored in the currency tab, having it take up bag space is ridiculous.

I get what you are saying. A compelling argument surely, but you posted the argument in General Discussion. Right idea, wrong execution. This is the BFA of arguments. :smirk:

Having items for Artifact did make sense though, in that we had a choice of three weapons that we could stuff the power into. Anima makes little sense in inventory.

While I agree it’s a step back in that respect it makes sense in terms of ‘how it’s being used’ so our heart previously absorbed the azerite, here we need to transport anima which they do give the preface for can’t be done ‘magically’.

I am with you that it could just be collected anima stored on our person. I guess they wanted to be flavourful and have it as items. Then again we are carrying a backpack with a solid 32*3+34 slots we’re probably well past being practical about it all.

That’s a fair point. As a Vulpera and having the Authenticator extra slots as well as 3 Embroidered Deep Sea Bags and Papa’s Mint Condition Bag I do have a lot of space. It’s a fair point.

The same reason we have to listen to all the npc’s “blah-de-blah-de-blah” quests and having to run around Orboros instead of being able to mount up from prof trainer to flight master, padding. It’s Blizz’s padding play time to give the shareholders something to wank off to.

Honestly, a lot of SL feels like they listened to the worst players, i.e. classic, and added old, crappy systems to the game. Once again, it’s the music and art team carrying WoW again.

Wait, I was under the impression they removed this aspect of infinite grinding from the game…
Was I wrong ? do we still have to infinite grind ? ? ?

It’s a bag item because in patch 9.3 they’re going to make it account-bound so you can mail it to your alts for catch-up.

I think it’s fine being an inventory item, if we’re going with having to deposit it (and I agree that it makes sense from a flavor perspective, and I honestly don’t mind it from a gameplay perspective). Having it in your inventory can serve as a reminder that you do need to go do that pit stop to deposit it.

However, I also whole-heartedly agree that all of it should have been contained in a single item simply called “Anima”, and all sources of the stuff should have rewarded however much of that same single item. There’s no reason for me to have to dedicate near on an entire row in my inventory grid to the pile of anima items when it could just being a single slot and be done with it.
