An Update on Shadowlands

What a bunch of fanboys. Being happy about this makes me cringe. Most if not all of you must work for Blizz lol. It must be really broke as they didn’t even give a new launch date.

Yes, it is broke, that’s why delays happen. Do you know how much effort the developers had to beg, let alone blizzard team as a whole to convince activision to delay this? Why would you even want a broken game to come out. 2020 has been a sh!t show. You would have to be delusional to think working from home wouldn’t have effected development.

If you truly and honestly care about this game if you been around here for any amount of time. You know this is the biggest and riskiest move they can do today. Yeah is sucks the game isnt coming out, BFA has not been the best around. But if this means that the game is gonna be in a better state then SOME CLASSES DOING DOUBLE THE DAMAGE THEN OTHERS. Delay away for tuning and polish.

Anyone that cares, doesn’t want WoW to suck. We all wanna leave BFA behind us. But this is necessary at this point. Anyone that complains about a delay to the point of a refund is just whining they didn’t get their way.

They always said the only thing that would kill wow is wow. Congrats jonny boy. You buried warcraft.

You should let some of us vetrans of the game in to beta test. Seems your not getting enough feedback…

they took 12 days to address an issue that was literally causing people seizures…its not the feedback. its the three chimps they having working dev.

Thank you so, so much! I know a subset of players will be pretty upset by this, but I sincerely believe that most of us are VERY HAPPY with the decision to delay SL’s launch.

Yea!! Ty for the update. Glad to see you sticking to a polished product than a rushed one.
Now i can use that beta invite ya’ll sent me. Also, ty for the actual date for pre-patch vs hints.

There are pros and cons to a delay,

The pros are obviously a higher quality product (which will still undergo tuning during the first few weeks).

The negative is that they lose a bit of the momentum they were trying to build by getting in before alot of the other big releases of the year.

I took some time off for release (but I have around 100 days of PTO available atm so using 2 days for me is nothing).

I will probably use my planned time off on the BG3 early access, might dip into prepatch when the gear is out to gear up some alts, but won’t be back to play properly till release or after if I am busy with another game.

In reality the project managers need to be removed. Clearly they have no idea what they are doing.

I once took time off for a game release as well. Remember WoD… stuck on horde garrison for hours cause you couldnt begin it.
I learned from that day never plan a vacation on a game release.

That would only be the case if after a delay the product is still unplayable. As in the end it looks worse on your project management skills to be on time with rubbish when you can wait a little and have a decent game.

That being said its 2020 so every game is riddled with major bugs and glitches (which are acceptable in a single player game but in a multiplayer game with competition between players major bugs are a problem)

Thanks for the update and for the team’s hard work. I can’t imagine working on a game of this magnitude at home. You’re all the real hero’s here. Stay safe and thank you Blizz

Do the characters we start now roll over into SL when it is launched, in other words, can we level a toon now to be ready to jump right into Bastion on launch day or are we required to wait until launch day to even start lvling?

In a world where AAA titles are released all the time unfinished, it is refreshing to see a company understand that it is not good for anybody, and delay the release. Especially from a company that is near and dear to so many people, which over the years has probably lost a lot of those people due to bad decisions. I am 100% looking at this as a positive, thank you. Also, if you want to avoid this in the future, maybe try and focus less on new features, and more on balancing and new and exciting content.

Clearly you don’t remember Burning Crusade’s launch. They did virtually the same thing back then. Expansion launch scheduled in October, only to be delayed a few weeks prior to the date. Blizz said in the official post that it would be delayed for a few weeks while they polished up the expansion. A few weeks turned into a few months, with Burning Crusade finally launching in January. Lots of players were pissed, but in the end, it was a successful launch and a wonderful expansion.

Here’s a link to the NBC news article (yes, it was nationwide news that Blizzard’s anticipated expansion was seriously delayed by months).

YES! The Blizzard of old is what we crave. Solid move; make most of the opportunity.

I agree Blizzard, buff DHs

Considering the sheer amount of pre-Shadowlands things that need tweaking, this is easily the best move. I’d rather have things not be borked up by needing to meet an arbitrary date with all the work this had to have taken. Endgame stuff isn’t something I personally care about, but I know a LOT of people do, and making sure everything’s as polished as possible without actual live-testing is the right way to go, especially in light of CD Projekt Red going back on their no-crunch promise. I imagine some people are going to complain, but all things considered, better to wait a month or two and get the best thing you can instead of getting a half-baked expansion in a couple of weeks.

Thank you for putting our experience above other things. Doing this and making the game better will make more people happy with the expansion and less disappointments. Also thank you for telling us this so soon rather right before the launch date. Question will the rep or xp bonuses be continued?

They delay it and everyone says good job. Then once its released I bet everyone will still complain like previous expansions saying its incomplete or horrible while questioning Bliz. about what they did during the extra time they took.
