An M+ Affix Idea

If M+ dungeons being favorable to certain races is a problem, how about an affix that disables racials starting at +10? Seems like a good way to test individual skill and teamwork, no? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Guess Xal’atath hasn’t heard of this ‘Bargain’ yet.

Of course not.

Are racial that significant? As a human, my get-out-of-CC-free card does come in handy sometimes.

It’s mainly Shadowmeld and Dark Iron Dwarves being able to remove bleeds.

Writing this because friends I met on Horde have been race-changing to Dwarves for M+, and now even my last Horde friend has sadly switched to Dwarf as well. :smiling_face_with_tear: Sure, race-changing is a personal choice, but it really feels like this highlights how broken racial balance is.

Take Dwarf’s Stoneform, for example—it’s just so strong in dealing with certain mechanics that no other racial even comes close. I get that racials are part of the game’s identity, but when one stands out so much, it hurts both diversity and the competitive spirit of M+.

What if Blizzard balanced racials more aggressively—or even disabled them completely in competitive content—so we could focus purely on skill and teamwork? At this point, it doesn’t feel like World of Warcraft anymore—it’s starting to feel like WorlDwarf Warcraft. :joy:

:face_vomiting: RPGs shouldn’t have competitive content.

Racials should be better. As strong as class spells. Rotational, even.

thank you. Racials should absolutely be useful, and should give you incentive to pick a certain race, and make them all feel different from one another.

That type of stuff is extremely hard to keep alive when you start homogenizing things for a small portion of the playerbase (like an arena mode, or duels, or mythic+, etc.); it honestly makes the game feel worse when they do things like that.

Furthermore, I played night elf for a long time…shadowmeld is always situational, and most of the “omg shadowmeld OP” moments are not favorable for the group anyway, or part of some gimmick organized professional team tournament strategy ( ) , that has never been mandatory to achieve m+ milestones. * heavy breathing *

Or it really shines on one boss fight out of the 8 dungeons full of boss fights where it doesn’t matter unless you’re trying to save a wipe. Seems like something MDI players would complain about, because they want shadowmeld, but want to play the tournament on their human. :face_with_hand_over_mouth: (EDIT: N/M, rocket jump is useful like all the time, bad example)

Anytime I’ve played with a good group, the only time i use shadowmeld is to get a second stun off, or pad dps with an empowered rake every couple minutes.

Lore wise - these races have significant power levels over each other, and in some cases, it feels intentional that they synergize with certain classes (ie. NE druid). It makes you special in lots of ways outside of just min-maxing. I’m glad the devs still respect the roots of the universe to this day honestly.

It’s important to keep some of these RPG flavors if you want to keep an MMO alive, cuz once you remove too many of them, and start gamifying everything, you lose another piece that’ll be really hard to get back. :100:

Even though Blizzard has made some adjustments to buff certain races, it’s still concerning how Night Elves and Dwarves remain disproportionately favored. This kind of preference risks diminishing the core RPG flavor and diversity that make the game enjoyable. When certain races are overly prioritized, it can lead to a sense of imbalance or unfairness among players. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Racials are cool, but if you’re doing competitive stuff and not playing around the strong racials your trolling. I agree with your take (every character I have is a dwarf , although I just like dwarfs so I just ended up lucky it’s the best race for keys). Maybe allow you to pick a similar racial at character selection screen with a different name to appease those that want to keep the class fantasy alive… or… disable them in keys as you suggested. I’m curious if blizzard has ever commented on this officially at some point and what they had to say about it.

To be able to remove a bleed that would otherwise kill you in a +16 unless your a dwarf on such a short CD, or meld a boss mechanic that would also do this is insane power when a single death can mean the difference in a timer just because you wanted to be a fox or a panda or some crap. There is a reason alliance title cutoff is always higher if you separate the factions. Racials are used as defensive CDs equivalent to BOP, DIV, ice block, cauterize ect. You have the ability to remove a mechanic without having to use any class or spec resource based on what your character LOOKS like lol. It’s nuts the more I think about it.

I understand the “but why do we have to cater to the .1%??”. They do as long as there is a competitive game mode available, and many players are copying that exact formula used by those players in keys when it doesn’t make or break it just like the “meta” that’s always created and complained about here on a daily basis.

Of course on a personal level I like the way it is currently because I play dwarf and do high keys but for the greater good it might be a worthwhile change for everybody and we might see some more variety running around the world.

I respect your opinion but I wouldn’t play the game anymore at all. I wish they did get rid of it so I could get my life back!

That’s exactly what I’m hoping for.

I find it unfortunate that ‘the sky is the limit’ doesn’t really apply within the current system. If people enjoy racials and following specific metas, it might be better to have certain seasons where Orcs shine, and others where Gnomes take the spotlight instead.
