An interesting Tweet from Blizzard

There is a note on the @warcrart Twitter that I found interesting, especially one section that said:

“It also has updates to improve the game environment for our community, including additional changes to some content to better reflect our shared values, better visibility into the impact of your ingame reports of harassment, and more serious penalties for people engaged in disruptive behavior.”

You can check it out here:

(2) World of Warcraft on Twitter: “Here’s a look at the next few months ahead. https://t.co/6qPkhv1Uta https://t.co/qMsmgKwH5Y” / Twitter

Now, I dont know what all means in detail, but the italicized part interested me in particular. “Disruptive behavior” can cover a whole range of things of course but it gives me hope that there is going to far more monitoring done of things happening in game, especially if it impacts on things like botting.

And it also makes me wonder if there is more harassment going on in game that many of us are aware of. Most people are aware that toxic behaviour is on the increase across the gaming world and perhaps its reached a point where even Blizzard has decided to start addressing it. Ive been told that FF14 is very strong on dealing with ingame toxicity; perhaps Blizzard is starting to take a page out of that playbook. If so, I’m happy to hear it.

welp…there goes AH flipping, loll

I hope this would mean that they’re removing succubus and renaming Macaree.

And no more spiting gosh! I just don’t think my poor tbc mount can handle any more saliva.

For the salivalliance!!

I read that as stricter chat moderation. Probably going to silence if somebody rages in chat automatically.

I hope they start adding filters for names like yours too! Naming a toon after a person who assaulted their mother with Alzheimer’s seems a lot more taboo to me.

/spit instantly deletes your character.

lmao.

Nah. They’ll probably ban a few people for cursing and emoting. The bots make them money don’t forget. Meanwhile they’ll leave alone the people going on white supremacist rants in trade because they don’t use the naughty words. Automation of content policing makes it a joke.

I just think its WRT girls/women being treated properly in the game, to reflect on the companies stuff.

They’re just saying they’ll crack down on anything inappropriate a lot harder now.

The launcher mail “Development Update: A Message to the WoW Community” also has similar vague wording:

Shadowlands Update 9.1.5 will be going on the PTR next week, and a lot of what you’ll find in it is the direct result of your collective feedback. It includes long-asked-for changes to make it easier to swap covenants and conduits, updates to make it so you don’t need to repeat covenant campaigns on alts, new character customization options for some races that were lacking them, and many more changes to help you play the way you want.

It also has updates to improve the game environment for our community, including additional changes to some content to better reflect our shared values, better visibility into the impact of your in-game reports of harassment, and more serious penalties for people engaged in disruptive behavior.

Aco gets me silenced constantly for cursing they already do stuff and if your known to get in trouble alot the punishment is quite hard. The straight hate rhetoric and racist garbage in chats probably getting hammered soon as well as being to lewd. Goodbye to the an** spam for sure.

Bots/Farmers and Boost/Carries sellers/spammers are very disruptive too, hope we get rid of those as well, if that is even possible

The language is vague. I dislike vague when it comes to rules and penalties.

But I keep gray items in my inventory just for anal spam :frowning:

We’re at 500k subs now, banning people that pay for extra subs or promote the purchase of tokens would be an unwise move.

I started playing FF14 and noticed that when we fail, the team helps me learn the mechanics, and says “we can do this!” In WoW you get kicked in a normal dungeon for messing up a pull or not doing enough DPS.

I remember when League of Legends would post videos for team morale and avoid toxicity. They really helped and I think WoW should do this too!

According to the blue post:

Players who reach max Renown for their Covenant will be able to freely switch among any of the four Covenants without cooldown or restriction

I haven’t even reached max Renown yet, welp.

New Character Customizations

A variety of new character customizations are being introduced for Nightborne and Lightforged Draenei along with additional updates to ear size options for void elves, new travel forms for druids, and new Soulshapes for Night Fae.

Introducing Legion Timewalking

Maw Introduction Skippable
Players who have completed the introduction in the Maw on one character will be able to […]

Island Expeditions: Queue Solo or with a Party
Players who want to take on Island Expeditions are now able to […]

Yes.

Talent and Ability Improvements

In 9.1.5 we are working on additional updates to a variety of class talents and class abilities including Conduits, Runecarving, and Covenant class ability tuning.

I hope for incremental changes, not the type of “rebalance” that forces the majority of players to reroll.

Allied Race Unlocks

Allied races such as the Kul’Tiran humans, Mechagnomes, and Dark Iron Dwarves, which had a dungeon requirement to unlock them, will no longer need to […]

Additional Travel Points in The Maw

Players will be able to take advantage of additional fast travel options […]

Remote Anima Turn-Ins

Completing quests from Archivist Roh-Suir will provide access to an Anima Diverter within Korthia […]

Yes.

Transmogrification Linking

Show off your complete transmog outfit to chat […]

I hope not. This is already supported by addons. Official support of this could causing unnecessary controversies. WoW players come from vastly different geographical regions and culture backgrounds, and have very different views on what is fashionable and what is bawdy.

Currently, only players with certain addons can see complete transmog linking. Official support will make everyone able to see the links. This could enable new types of trolling and controversies.

Alt Leveling Improvements

[…] such as an additional rank of Heirloom upgrades, and improvements to Threads of Fate such as the addition of Torghast as an option and Renown gains for completing bonus objectives.

Yes.

PvP Gear Power Adjustments

Lower item-level PvP gear will now scale to a higher item-level in PvP situations than before. This should reduce the power level gap so that new characters can feel that they’re able to compete in Battlegrounds and Arenas more readily. This change will not affect high item-level PvP gear.

What happened to faction balance? Has the Alliance been forgotten?

I think all low ilevel gear should scale up, not just PvP ones. A new player freshly completed the Shadowlands campaign at ~110 ilevel should not be the opposition faction’s easy prey.

Runecarving Recipes

Drop rates for Runecarving recipes will be increased to 100% […]

Battle for Azeroth Legacy Loot Rules

Legacy loot rules will be enabled for players at level 60 […]

Yes.

There are also numerous undocumented changes coming with 9.1.5. I hope we don’t see a sharp increase in chat censorship, emote censorship, transmog censorship, guild and pug censorship, etc.

Sorry which Blue post says that? The only one I was was where it said a high level of Renown or something similar.

This is what I’m interested in learning more about, because there have been so many times where I’ve had to report folks for their behaviour in-game but I’ve then seen those players roaming around, apparently without getting even so much as a warning, and it causes myself and others that I know to lose faith in the system. So if they can make it more transparent and reveal that action has been taken? I’m all for it. But I’ll wait and see what the 9.1.5 patch notes say.
