An Echo in the Darkness (STORY CONTENT) tied to raid progression?

Are you nuts blizzard? Not everyone raids, most people LFR. And you have tied story progression to killing Danathrius? I completed Signs of the Lion in Torghast, all 18 floors. I went through that non sense only to find out that I cannot continue THE STORY unless I kill the raid boss on the current tier? If I dont raid at all, even LFR, I’ll never complete story. Basic story. If I LFR, it’ll be probably another 1 to 1.5 months until Danathrius is available.

What are you thinking?

(Or do I have this all wrong because this quest has not popped up for me, re-logged and everything. A little research shows you need to have killed danathrius and completed the quest for doing so.)

In BFA the story progression was gated behind the Battle of Dazar’alor raid. Nonraiders like myself were out of luck until the final patch (8.3), when the BoD raid requirement was removed. We could at least finish the story at that point, but a bunch of plot quests in the middle were removed. The only way to know what happened with Baine etc. was to watch the cinematics on Youtube.

TLDR: Blizz has done this before.

I didnt play BFA. Thats unreal. Im likely to unsub rather than raid. Unless the rest of LFR is unlocked/released in the next week or two. Otherwise, at the end of the month, Im letting my sub expire. This is just dumb. Again, blizzard proving why I have taken multi year breaks from the game.

OP, I think you might be overreacting. As the other poster said, it was the same in BFA. Killing the boss (LFR or otherwise) just allowed you to finish the quest and see the in-game cinematic. That’s it. There’s nothing else after it. Once there’s a new patch with a new main boss, another quest line will initiate.

This also isn’t new with WoW in general. Previous expansions (Vanilla, TBC, etc) gated entire quest lines behind raid bosses. I remember there being quest items that had to be obtained in Serpentshrine Cavern, for example.

For me, I also didn’t raid and also didn’t bother with LFR early in BFA. The quest just sat in my log, but it was easy enough to see the cinematic without doing it. It didn’t change anything other than me not earning the 25g for the quest.

I think the better question is here…how would you expect you (the player character) to experience the downing of a boss without actually doing the boss? Just have a NPC that gives you the option to say something like “I heard some brave heroes defeated [boss]. Can you show me what happened?”

You cannot get into Black Temple without clearing Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep.
