An Easy Fix for Honor Ranking

The recent changes to the Honor system have been great, making ranking more equitable and humane. However, it’s obvious that the new system was rushed, and still has issues with cutoffs, and the time required to rank for the larger faction.

I’ve put a lot of thought into solutions for these problems without coming up with a solution. I guess my subconscious has been mulling it over, too, because last night I was dreaming about spamming AV when an elegant, easy solution occurred to me. It was so exciting that it woke me from my dream and I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget. Here it is, in it’s entirety:

Remove honor decay.

Not only will this remove the need for complex, arcane calculations to determine the honor you need to rank up each week, it opens the ability for EVERYONE to rank up. Just think of how this will increase PvP battleground participation. Everyone will be rewarded for their time with better gear AND cool PvP titles.

Note to Blizzard devs: I will happily pay the $87 it will cost to have someone from Upwork program this change. Hit me up, you have my contact info.

I’ll bet that hurt.

Hey, the devs are busy people, I don’t mind picking up their light work.

Why remove decay when they’ve already made the change that you can’t derank, especially when in most ranks, you only need one week at cap.

I agree that the changes have some positives, where maybe the biggest one that would appeal to the most casual crowd is the no de-ranking, but adding no decay seems a little too far lol

in other words, what is that “fixing” other than just making it easier than it already is? Tons of people are getting the cap even on alliance (last week 400+ ppl had over 400k honor, being a conservative estimate), so I’m not sure what even warrants that kind of fix.

also, nothing is “cool” about a pvp title, especially now kekw

Because there’s no way I’m ever going to earn 500,000 honor, or anywhere close to that in a week.

I enjoy battlegrounds 2-4 hours a week. More than that it cuts into my other play time/real life time.

Sitting at my desk 40+ hours to rank is neither healthy, nor enjoyable.

PvP gear and titles are for fun, there’s no reason anyone should risk their health for a game reward that stopped being 1337 15 years ago.

I agree - sorry I should have worded that better - it’s not an “easy” or like “quick” grind by any means (and frankly the fact that it’s almost entirely dependent on a single battleground or killing bots probably makes it a lot worst). But then again, many many people get 500k every week, and at 13 you need 420 (unless fixed), such that there is an audience for that longer grind. Maybe if you can only play 2-4 hours a week, ranking just isn’t for you.

It is for me, thanks.

Decay is the reason you can’t jump from rank 2 to 14 in one week.

Make it any easier and bye bye prebis farm. Might as well delete all prebis dungeons and every boss in mc except rag.

Pvp will be the new prebis

It’s already set up in a way where on fresh, if 5000 people cap every week for 8 weeks, there will be literaly 5000 rank 14s on Tuesday reset.

Let’s not make that 20,000

So, you’re saying people don’t do dungeons and raids for their social aspect?

Huh.

Because that’s what everyone claims to love about Classic over Retail.

You can just ignore me pointing out that you completey invalidate prebis farm if you make ranking accessible to every single player, but ok

Som saw everyone ranking at server launch for the same reason. Imagine if back then the cap was 300k instead of 2 million

The entire server would have been rank 14 on week 6

How?

Some people enjoy that farm.

Some people enjoy ranking in battlegrounds.

Anything but a straw man might help you with your point.

Make ranking easy as possible and accessible to every player = invalidating half the games content, regardless of individual player emotion

This game must still function properly. Social aspects will follow through without the game being killed (like som)

What exactly is your proposal to make ranking easier? Because decay is the reason you aren’t r14 in two weeks

So, what I’m hearing is that you just want to gatekeep an almost 20-year-old game because you had to walk to school uphill both ways through five feet of snow when you were a kid.

Gotcha.

I’m not gatekeeping anything.

I am trying to keep the game functioning properly.

I don’t think we need to break the games stability because Joe Schmo can’t play more than 2 hours a week.

Screw joe. rather have a proper functioning server. I was all for making ranking easier and it is. If you can’t play the game besides when you brush your teeth that’s your problem

I’d love to be able to clear naxx with a 5-man and skip through all the trash… :frowning: wtb fix for that

Well if it goes in that sort of order it sounds like:

  • Old ranking system: for people that had time and can group up (premades)
  • Current ranking system: for people that had time
  • Next ranking system (TBD): for people that don’t have time (prob a vendor)

I’d be okay with that as long as I can buy the Glad title for a reasonable amount, along with the rank 14 gear.

As long as there’s no decay, what does it matter?
