AMD Timeout driver since 10.2

Hello,

I am contacting you following the problem of the driver exceeding the time with world of Warcraft on AMD RX 7000 graphics cards. (black screen for 15 seconds then return to the desktop with a pop-up from the AMD driver indicating that the driver has exceeded the timeout)
A problem that is very well known, just type world of Warcraft timeout driver AMD on google to see pages and pages of returns…

I have a 7900XTX, and this problem is really annoying.

AMD supposedly solved the problem with the 24.5.1 drivers

But in fact no…

The problem seems more serious with dx 12 enabled in the game.
In my case the solution to no longer have the problem was to enable dx 11 and disable anti aliasing in the game.

But since the latest version of the drivers even in dx 11 without AA the problem is present, and if I enable dx 12 the driver crashes completely and the game too, and I have to reboot the PC…

I don’t know who is at fault AMD or Blizzard, but the problem has existed since patch 10.2 and the common point between all the people who have this problem is that there are many of us… it only happens with World of Warcraft.

Thank you for reporting this problem so that it can finally be fixed, because I really don’t want to switch to Nvidia.

Blizzard themselves have acknowledged being aware of the problem (see the blue answer on this link)

This dates back to November 2023…

Thank you for reporting this problem, which is really very annoying and once again many people with RX 7000s are affected.

Best advice: Disable hardware acceleration in all other apps that you might have running other than WoW. This includes your browser. Also double check every running app for overlays and disable all of them. Even mouse and keyboard softwares all come with them these days and they also tend to have hardware acceleration turned on as well.

If the apps don’t have an option to disable HA, then close them completely and verify they are closed with the task manager.

One final thing: If you’re using a multimonitor setup, test things for a while by completely physically disconnecting your extra monitors. Windows MPO issues can cause headaches like this and were a huge problem years back for both AMD and Nvidia cards.
