So I’m comparing laptops who’s sole use will be SL and
One has AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Processor and AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics card - 8GB Memory - 512GB SSD
The other is $100 more and has AMD Ryzen 7 3700U processor - AMD Radeon Vega 10 graphics card - 12GB Memory - 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD
The latter obviously runs wow way better right? 128gb ssd wont be an issue will it? thanks!
i’d skip any of the U chips from either manufacturer for gaming. They are low-power solutions not designed for sustained workload.
H is what you want.
128gb is fine for a boot drive, but it won’t be enough for OS + WoW.

Great advice thanks!
so looking at another option with AMD Ryzen 5 4600H - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - 256GB SSD - 8GB Memory would be better in your opinion?
I would go with 16gb RAM at this point, and a more potent graphics card if you can afford it
So it’s an Acer Nitro 5, I could just buy another 8gb ram and it in addition to the current ram yeah?

maybe - you’d want to check on the specifics of the laptop.
what’s your budget, anyway?
the cheaper the better tbh, something less than 800. this acer is $700ish with tax
I haven’t seen recent laptops, but older ones I’ve owned you could add extra RAM or even upgrade (going from a 8GB chip to a 16GB, then adding another giving you 32GB)
Also, keep in mind it’s relatively easy to buy a bigger SSD, clone it, and increase the partition size so you have room for your OS and at least WoW (if not more, some programs don’t like to be on a secondary drive).
You may have to buy a laptop with less than ideal specs and buy some extra parts to make it “better” but it might be worth it in the long run.
i did this for my mom and a cheap i3 with a 240gb ssd, works for her.
Keep in mind that spec sheets don’t tell the whole story for laptops.
You want to check each individual review because the more powerful specs you put in it, the harder it is to cool. Every manufacturer has different cooling and construction methods, as well as BIOS-level limits for boosting or power throttling.

If you live near a Micro Center that has this one in stock it’s pretty good.
https://www.microcenter.com/product/621617/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-5659-156-gaming-laptop-computer---black
Yea the 4000 series is a better cpu and the 1650 will give you good frame rates at 7 setting.
Saw this on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-GeForce-Gigabit-FA506IH-AS53/dp/B0865THZCL/ dunno if the acer had a 144hz screen but wouldn’t be bad without it either.
thank y’all so much! i’ll look into the microcenter option, theres one nearby luckily

np i kinda hate you tho
because closest one for me is 6hrs away
It’s worth the drive if you’re dedicated enough.
eh the discounts lose the value at that point.
Maybe you need to just buy more stuff so the trip is worthwhile - those savings compound you know!
This player has the right idea.

Got this for my dad, I have the Legion 5 with the 4800H, plays shadowlands fine, 6-7 settings 45-60 fps. Cooling is decent too.

It should come with one 8gb stick of ddr4 3200 memory, so you should be able to install an additional 8gb stick as well.
