AMD GPUs Defaulting to DirectX 11. FIX THIS

Incase anyone else was confused by AMD GPU performance (7000 series here), WoW Modern client is currently defaulting Radeons to DX11 when set to Auto.

This likely has to do with the hang on load and driver timeout issues that’ve been occurring since Fall 2023.

have you posted this in the AMD forums or contacted their team about this?

DX11 definitely performs worse than DX12. It’s mind boggling that BG3 uses DX11. I’ve been using DX12 in WoW for about 8 years.

At this point, posting on this issue on the Tech Forum is the digital equivalent of yelling into the void. I had to return my graphics card of the same series to the seller because WoW became basically unplayable. And it only ever happened in WoW. I had to reinstall a 5 year old graphics card which is still functioning without any similar issues.

No, this isn’t the forum for it but I get the OP’s frustration. I recall they made a blue comment saying they were aware of it (months ago) and nothing further has been done.

So yeah, not the place OP, but I feel your pain.

Tech Support functions similar to Bug Reports: it’s another voice to the problem for them to log for evaluation. While TS can also help solve problems at times, it’s a dual functionality.

This sounds like something that’s not as easy to fix and may have to wait until War Within at this point. Could be buried in the engine stacks. Not sure.

I’ve asked for help there before, only to be told by the MVPs and other users there they won’t help because my computer wasn’t supported.

In the past, this was true, however even when I got a new computer that WAS supported, they said the same thing.

I opened a tech support ticket and I even started the ticket with something like “I know my laptop isn’t supported but…” And the first thing the GM said was something like “Your laptop is supported, I’m not sure who told you it wasn’t, it’s close to not being supported but it currently is” and they helped me figure out the problem.

This was back in BFA when I got a laptop from a friend.

Well, they certainly take their time evaluating a problem that is for many gamebreaking.

I’m not a tech, I don’t know what the problem is, I can only say that when a major hardware item like a GPU stops me playing a game I pay to use, that should be something Blizzard should be talking to AMD about, at the very least. If they are talking, they need to speed up their communications.

I will eventually need to get a new card and I plan to switch to Nvidia and hope like hell that their cards are ok…

I haven’t had issues with Nvidia but mine is old. I have a friend who just got a GTX 4070 TI and it seems to be working well.

AMD cards have given me issues for a while now. I refuse to deal with them. We got the hubby a new one about 6 years ago and within one year, they refused to support it and had no driver updates. Screw that. I went back to Nvidia.
