AMD drivers crashing in 10.1

I get the same thing, either the game freezes or the game window minimizes to the desktop, then after a couple of seconds it goes back to normal. Those couple of seconds matter.

Switching to DX11 fixed my crashing problem. Cool cool cool cool

I fixed the crashed by ripping out the drivers in safe mode and reinstalled. I fixed my interaction crash by swapping to DX11. Not sure if swapping to DX11 would have fixed my other issues.

I had an RTX2080 before and upgraded a while ago to a 6900xt just like you as well.

Have you guys tried clearing the shader cache in the AMD Adrenalin software?

Make sure wow.exe is completely closed and gone from the task manager>Open Adrenalin>Settings cog in the top right>Graphics tab>Click the advanced dropdown arrow>All the way at the bottom>Reset shader cache

The fact that it’s breaking some some very specific effects for some of you kind of makes it sound like there’s an invalid shader still cached that didn’t get flagged for recompilation.

Resetting my shader cache fixed the issue for me 100%, thank you so much!

You’re welcome, hope it stays fixed and hopefully others will give it a try as well. If not, Blizzard can always just make a small patch that invalidates all the cached shaders and forces the drivers to recompute them again.

Clearing AMD cache as you mentioned did the trick for me, without needing to use dx11. Before I couldnt kill one Forbidden reach rare without a lock up/crash, and over last half hour we killed about a dozen and not a single hickup.

Only got to test the shader cache clear fix for about an hour, but so far so good. Will do more testing with it tomorrow.

Tried the clearing cache trick but it didn’t work for me, just crashed on every single boss fight in a time-walking run.

I haven’t had issues with the new zone, nor did I have issues with Al’gethar Academy like others did. Haven’t tried Timewalking or pvp since the other day either.

This seems to be an issue with DX12, changing to DX11 fixed it for me & it is not isolated to AMD, a person I was grouped with has been having the same problem on their RTX & also resolved it going back to DX11.

Looks like it worked for some but unfortunately that didn’t work for me. Thanks for the info however!

Can also confirm switching to DX11 worked, clearing shader cache did not work for me though.

Issue occurred for me during most timewalking boss fights, loading into Suramar from Dalaran, and click on crystals on ship during Eonar fight just to name a few.

One last edit to mention I am using an AMD 6800XT

i tested with the reset of the shader with dx12 and i still glitched on my monk when i have xuen out. tested when switched to dx11 did not glitch the screen on using monks abilities at all. So for all the AMD users doesn’t matter which card i think atm using dx11 till dev’s comes out with the fix for it will have to do.

AMD 6800XT - GPU

Issues where when doing certain actions or nothing the whole GPU locks up and locks all my machines interface. Only way is to power down the machine and back up. Issue only stems from being in WoW. Ran DDU and clean installed WoW. No change.

Did not work for me. I did notice that switching between DX11 and DX12 produces the same type of lock up effect if done in game, however. Wondering if there is a connection between the animations causing the freezes and an 11-12 swap happening in game.

Resetting the shader cache did not work for me, still freezing on dx12.

It happen to me too this freezing so i hope that blizzard fix ASAP

After resetting the shader cache in AMD adrenalin when I exit the game I am prompted with the Error#132 using DX11, however, no freezing is occuring on DX11. Hope this is helping blizzard.

Howdy!

We have seen issues with AMD cards, such as freezing after Xuen despawns; we aim to fix this in an upcoming hotfix shortly. Until then, switching to DirectX 11 has been shown to help. You can do this in-game by pressing “Esc” → Options → Graphics → Change DirectX API to DirectX 11. Apply and restart the client.

Thank you.
