I recently got a good deal on one of these cards(AMD 6600XT), Open Box $150. I am replacing a GTX 1060.
Will I see a performance improvement in retail WoW and Elden Ring?
I have never used AMD so I am nervous. Sorry if this is the wrong place… not sure where to ask these questions.
All depends on the resolution you play at, as well as other components are not gonna bottle neck your system.
I will give you advice on it though, AMD drivers are really finnicky, and it does very how they react from card to card. Create a restore point everytime you decide to update the drivers. Also the latest driver sometimes isn’t the best one for your system set up. Just keep that in mind.
I play at 1080p. Sometimes in older areas I upscale retail wow to 150% resolution. But not while raiding and such.
I started getting artifacts with my 1060, it’s been a good run. I am hoping that I am somewhat getting an upgrade out of the exchange to last me another few years. I haven’t had the best of luck with nvidia drivers either to be honest… But it’s what I am used too.
you most def can, WoW is a more CPU bound than GPU. This rig i currently use has a 6700XT and im playing at max settings and run on average 120-140 FPS out in the world.
I never thought I would ever get over 100fps with any game honestly, glad to hear that. A 1060 has gotten me by for quite awhile till I bought Elden Ring. It was dipping down to 30fps, bosses are painful with that.
RIP but I am kind of happy it blew up…Maybe I will be able to enjoy it and Last of Us.
I went from a gtx1060 to Rx6600 XT, there is quite a large improvement in the frame rate. There is a bit higher risk of having driver issues with AMD cards though.
You’ll see way better performance in other titles, but as the rest have stated. you need to be more diligent in backing up your PC everytime you update your drivers. AMD is not as reliable in that regard, and you will more than likely be rolling back driver versions more frequently.
Myself i am still on the febuary update, which is more stable and better performance than the last 2 driver updates, in my PC.
Thank you for sharing your information. I appreciate it all greatly I will do so.
Has anyone loved the switch from green at all?..
I had a friend tell me the consoles use AMD so they do something right. I’m not sure the truth behind that statement or how it compares to being a PC graphics card.
There was a GTX 1660 card for $220 but my friend said it was a terrible deal and the 6600xt was more powerful and you can’t beat the $150 price tag… it rivals the RTX 3060?
Price per performance on previous generation cards, I would go AMD. Nvidia’s pricing is wild on lower gen cards, though the 4070 would be the next update PPPD after your 6600XT.
congrats on the upgrade. I personally am upgrading very soon to a 6950xt i just snagged for 695 I paid a scalper last year for a 3000 series card that has been underwhelming.
The 3xxx cards from nvidia were a huge flop, I am embarrassed how much I paid for my 3060. AMD has them beat with the previous generation. We will see how this new generation plays out in a few months. Money is on nvidia for the 4xxx cards tho.
im embarrassed as well, i think AMD’s last 2 generations didnt fare well because of some early defects scared people off? and the trope that Nvidia is always better? Some of the higher end nvidia cards have been literally melting power cables they arent immune to defects.
the 3070 was my third nvidia card in a row. Def going to take a break from them.
I’m excited to see what intel has up their sleeves. Their first generation cards didn’t do terrible after a few months of driver fixes. Pretty cheap too.
AMD still has a bad reputation for horrible drivers because the damage they did with their cards a few generations back was so bad…
I think currently it’s pretty equal tbh with drivers. Both (now 3?) teams have had drama with drivers. Don’t stress it to much OP.
Always safe practice to wait a week or two before updating with any driver really unless you are having problems.
Kinda makes me sick lmao. About a quarter of what I paid for a 3060.
