Am I wasting my time leveling warlock? Should I go mage?

I want a caster to main in 10.2 and I used to like warlock in the past but I’m hearing they’re getting worse as the expansion progresses. Should I continue with warlock or should I switch to a mage?

Edit - this would be for pve only, no pvp.

Warlock is never a good option unless your into pain and suffering.
There are some unique moments where one of our specs will be broken for a period of time making it seems like a good choice, but it will get nerfed and melee will get buffed so its not worth it.
DF season2 i played hundreds of games toi get to 1950 on my lock. Started a shadow priest and got to 1950 in a week.
I play fire mage and its very fun at times but you need to be smart at mitigating damage as there arent alot of heals. Shadow priest however has everything heals damage defensives. I would go with Spriest

My apologies, this would be strictly for pve. Pvp is definitely not my thing.

In pve it could be fun to play. I used to be big on raiding but not as much, but i think warlock might be in a decent place in raids atm not sure.
The biggest issue i experienced with warlock was getting into keys, not sure about destro and demo but aff is very weird in keys. If you are in a low key the damage takes too long to ramp up. Aff does best in high keys but people usually dont pick an aff lock over a DH for example so you might have issues there.
Every raid needs cookies so im sure youll get into those just fine.

True, unless you’re in a guild or regular group, pugging could definitely suck. I’ve never seen warlock mentioned as being good or wanted in keys.

Play what you want that looks fun. If you’re here asking this question then you don’t play at a level where class and/or spec matters. Will it be hard to pug higher keys? Yes, but unless you’re one of the two meta dps it’s hard regardless.

Strictly speaking you will probably be more consistently better on a mage (they are a protected class). Warlocks are more a wild ride between buff and nerf cycles, and generally get reworked every patch.

I still find warlock more fun though. (PVE). Just be prepared for major whiplash.

Warlocks have been pain to play since Legion. It looks like mages haven’t been faring much better recently anyway.

It’s a waste of time. Warlock design is expansions behind other casters.

Demo is the only spec the warlock developer cares about, the other 2 are dead and outdated.

Play mage if you value your sanity.

Don’t waste your time on Warlocks.
Always go for Mage or Priest for casters, you will never be disappointed.
You can check the last time a blue post was seen on these cursed lands. There’s no developer playing Warlock, it’s all random buffs and nerfs that make no sense from time to time.

“Oh, but you got pet customization” after 10 years of the green fire quest… sure, we are special, so special…

It’s probably a punishment for class developers to work on warlocks.
“This is the third time you’ve been late for work. As a punishment, you will read all Warlock skills and make adjustments.”

Actually, yea do a Mage or something else. This Xpac appears to be the one that left locks in the “next one” bin

God, forums are depressing.

Just started my lock and feel beefy.

When I returned to the game I dusted of my ice mage and was having fun. I decided to dust off my lock and go demonology. I find it a lot more fun! I can survive better and take on tougher npc’s easily. Plus it’s fun pulling demons from portals and sicking a whole team on mobs.

This is just me doing pve though, so I could care less about patches, nerfs or buffs. I find it fun.

Yes, you are.

If you like the aesthetic, just to collect plants, fishing and do the quest line, you are fine.

Anything inside a stance you will be rock bottom, clunky slow, carried, pathetic dps.

You can set a portal here and there, but that’s it.
