Am I too old for WoW?

I get that WoW is for kids blah blah (ACKTCHUALLY it was for teens/adults back when oldschool devs with a pair ran things).

Anyways this is the first expansion where the writing (and not class balance) is driving me off, to the point where I just spent the past 10 minutes trying to find a way to skip the campaign (only to find out it’s for alts only :frowning:

Everything is so overly goofy and bright … it’s just so dumb it literally makes me feel uncomfortable like I shouldn’t be participating in something so child-like. Doesn’t feel like WoW’s for adults, let alone even teens anymore. Definitely not the cool place to be, but it was fun for a good long while. Now it’s just awkward.

Did I get too old for WoW or is WoW too immature for adults?

It is? I didn’t get that memo!

Most of us are not kids anymore, so you’re not too old!

Growing old is inevitable.
Growing up is optional

How can I say if you’re too old for WoW when you didn’t post your age

And that is where I stopped reading

No, it sounds like you just got old. And that’s got nothing to do with age.

I turn 40 in July; been playing since 2005. I still really enjoy the game; some of it is silly, but it has always silliness in it. I don’t take it too seriously and find it really enjoyable.

It’s the only video game I play anymore.

Isn’t there literally a storyline about forced breeding with Alexstrasza? Never woulda guessed that was for kids tbh.

If you think you’re too “mature” for something then chances are you’re immature.

We have had pick up poo quests for xpacs upon xpacs and you’re saying the game was more serious back in the day?

I don’t thing age is the issue. I’ve seen complaints from many people about the writing. I don’t like it either.

The writing has been slipping for a bit now. Not sure why, I am certain the company can pay for decent writers.

Honestly, it seems like a lot of degen systems exist in today’s game more than past version; from anti-addiction hooks to succubuses with clothes on, the game has slowly become less “graphic” and more “novel”.

Story would be better with more comic writers, like the legion arcs, than by hiring uninspired young adult fantasy writers.

Age is but a figment of the mind.

There are whole guilds on numerous servers dedicated to those over retirement age. As of this posting, the oldest I’ve grouped with was 93 who I actually met up with at a Gamecon.

Too silly? Were you even there for Cataclysm? Anything having to do with the Goblins was silly - and hilarious!

I wouldn’t even mind that if they could string together a coherent story w/ characters acting in a realistic fashion.

“Oh no, the horde is sending diplomatic missions to Zandalar, let’s attack Zuldazzar to prevent it!” What?

Neither.

You have decided a ‘bright’ video game art style equals ‘goofy’ and ‘dumb’ and ‘immature’ and ‘child-like’. Don’t worry, if you continue to mature (your use of the phrase ‘not the cool place to be’ unironically clearly indicating you have a long way to go) you will grow out of it.

I’ve met people 60+ who play.
So… no?

I’m old enough that I forget how old I am, and have to do math to figure it out.

I’m having a great time in game!

I don’t think it’s your age, I think it’s your personal perception. If you aren’t enjoying the content, maybe you could try Classic? Might be good for a break and a different perspective. Personally, I could LIVE in Ardenweald. I wish I could have gone there sooner and skipped Maldraxxis entirely. Maldraxxis was so depressing to play through for me.

*Edit: The environment is absolutely stunning, even in the “ugly” places. I haven’t been this impressed with the world building since Wrath. I used to fly around with my other druid in raven form in that expansion just for the scenery and music. Kudos to Blizzard for creating such beauty.
